San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

This year's (#12) and the 2022/23 1st rounders to move up to #3. Obviously gonna be a QB. I'm far too cynical to think I'd e lucky enough for them to snag Fields there, but who knows.

Whomever it is will get a year to learn behind Jimmy G, which is nice. Bottom line with Jimmy is he's just not mobile and is too prone to injury missing 23/48 games the last three years.

Bottom line with Jimmy G is he isn't a very good NFL QB. Niners are smart to try and move on from him, but they need to get rid of Jimmy G and his contract to reach their peak potential.
His contract actually isn’t an obstacle at all. They were smart about it. Yeah, his salary is high, but they can release him with a minimal cap hit. I expect he’ll start in 2021 then either be traded or cut before 2022. I actually think he’s a pretty good NFL QB. Certainly good enough to win a lot with...see 2019. Problem is, he can’t stay healthy.

I really hope all the talk about taking Mac Jones is sort of smokescreen. You can't get rid of all those picks and use a 3rd pick overall on a guy like Mac Jones. Obviously I am biased and would love to see Fields be the selection but I'd be fine with Lance too.

Can't believe Shanahan is going to take Mac Jones over clearly more talented quarterbacks b/c he fits his system. Andy Reid: give me Alex Smith, give me Mahomes, give me whoever & I'll make a system around them. Shanny: I simply must, and I can't stress this enough, have an unathletic pocket passer whose main strength is quick slants off play action.

It finally dawned on me... the arrogance of Shanahan.... he went to UT and played with Chris Simms... I’m almost certain there are stories him and Chris driving drunk on golf carts and i think crashing into a pool maybe or the lake... who knows... but now that I’ve put it all together I can see why he wants Mac... Mac is Chris Simms... only with two legit DUis ....

Trey Lance better be a star because Shanny/Lynch just strapped their asses to him. Gave up all those picks for a kid with 17 starts...in DII.

I've generally really liked almost everything they've done, but this is recklessly risky.

Snap judgement was “WTF GRGGGGGGGG!!!”, but the more I read about him, the more I’m warming to the pick. Risky? Certainly. Would I have rather had Fields? Yep. But he seems like a kid worth rooting for and it’s hard to find much bad said about him aside from the obvious DII/inexperience stuff.

My issue with the Lance pick is not the upside he has similar upside to Fields. My issue with the Lance pick is you took a more raw, less experienced dude with the same upside as another guy who showed more at 3. If this was pick 20 to 2nd round sure go for it. 3 why?

Why keep throwing it up 28-3 when running it eats clock and puts you in field goal range… ego is a motherfucker
