SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

The same thing could've been said four years ago if you take out Stanford and replace it with University of San Diego.

I find it funny that people are looking for a "proven" head coach, as if some of the up-and-coming guys are somehow deficient. Jim Harbaugh has more years of head coaching experience and more seasons of one loss or less at this point in his career than Urban Meyer had when he was hired by Florida.

Could any of these guys even be mentioned as candidates for big-time jobs without torches and pitchforks coming out?

"Coach A" - had spent three years at Denison and two years at Fredo (OH), and was coming off a victory in the Salad Bowl.

"Coach B" - had six years of head coaching experience at Fredo (OH) and only managed had only managed one season of less than three losses so far

"Coach C" - had just three years of experience as a head coach between Mississippi State and Washington, none of those seasons with a record better than 6-4.

Coach A was Woody Hayes before being hired by Ohio State
Coach B was Bo Schembechler before being hired by M*ch*g*n
Coach C was Darrell Royal before being hired by Texas

None of this is a guarantee that Harbaugh is going to succeed - but I don't think anybody who hires him is jumping the gun. If anything, right now is the time to find out what he has in him.

Prior college success is an indicator of success at another college. If you can improve a fredo or a SDSU, and show better recruiting, etc, than a predecesor, you don't have to win every game.

Conversely, success at the college level is completely unrelated to success at the pro level. Players are drafted, not recruited, and are more concerned with improving their bargaining power for future contract negotiations than for the team's success. A coach can't rally them by filling them with school spirit. It takes a special breed to coach profesional football.

Speaking of holding the rope, it gives TSUN fans hope that Harbaugh could stay at Stanford for 1 more year, and then head to AA.

I think it may be bad news for Arkansas fans, since Ryan Mallett may have just made a few million dollars by moving higher up in the first round.

The Miami Dolphins are on the verge of hiring Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh to be their next head coach, according to multiple sources.

The team has yet to fire current head coach Tony Sparano, however, multiple sources within the Dolphins organization said the firing appears imminent and that several assistant coaches have already left the staff as of Thursday morning.

Dolphins officials declined comment.

The San Francisco 49ers have "lost Harbaugh" in the past two days after believing they could strike a deal, according to sources within that organization. Harbaugh interviewed with 49ers owner Jed York and new general manager Trent Baalke earlier this week.

The 49ers were shifting their attention to former Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick and other candidates as of midday Thursday, a source said.

Harbaugh is one of the hottest NFL job candidates after posting a 12-1 season at Stanford that culminated with an Orange Bowl victory on Monday. He?s 29-21 in four seasons at the Pac-10 school.

Sparano, who has a year left on his contract, is 25-23 in three seasons. The Dolphins finished 7-9 this season, and were 1-7 at home.

Breaking News: Coaches Packing Boxes

AUTHOR: Brian Miller | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: None Yet |

According to a report by Chris Mortenson, that I can not confirm yet personally, several Miami Dolphins coaches were packing boxes from the Davie offices. Another report out of the Mercury News in California is that Jim Harbaugh will accept the head coaching job in Miami.

Thus far Tony Sparano was not one of those coaches however that doesn?t mean that he won?t be later today. The Dolphins would need to abide by the Rooney Rule regarding minority interviewing before they can officially name Harbaugh the HC. Of course they also need to officially fire Tony Sparano as well. The Dolphins are set to interview Hugh Jackson tomorrow if he isn?t hired today by another team.

If the Dolphins fail to interview a minority prospect for the job of HC they face stiff fines from the NFL. Draft picks are not part of any discipline.

UPDATE: The latest rumor as of the time of this posting is that Sparano has indeed been fired. Official word has not been passed down yet.

It isn't like the guy has no NFL experience though. He was an NFL QB for 15 years, comes from a coaching family, and his brother who has nearly the same demeanor has been very successful in Baltimore. He knows what the NFL is all about.

And Harbaugh is less of a rah-rah/school spirit motivator, and more of a do your [censored]ing job and execute motivator. The guy goes through the roof when his guys execute properly, and he lays people out when they don't.

I think he's about as sure of a thing as you are going to find. He knows his X's and O's which already separates himself from a handful of coaches, but he has the playing career to demand respect in the locker-room, and he has a good temperament to coach professionals.

There's a reason multiple NFL franchise want him...this isn't Pete Carrol, where just the Seahawks pursued, or Bobby Petrino where the Falcons thought he was the right guy. We're talking about San Fran, Miami, Denver...and if Oakland, Cleveland, etc even thought they had a chance they'd probably be involved as well.

Update: Jim Harbaugh reportedly accepts Miami Dolphins offer

Published: Thursday, January 06, 2011, 2:57 PM Updated: Thursday, January 06, 2011, 4:18 PM

Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh is reportedly close to agreeing to a multi-million deal with the Miami Dolphins.

4 p.m. update: Dan LeBatard, of ESPN and the Miami Herald, reported on his radio show Thursday afternoon that Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh has accepted the Miami Dolphins' head coaching position.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Michigan athletic director David Brandon hinted Wednesday that Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh would be coaching in the NFL next year.

It seems it might have taken Brandon's insinuation less than a day to come to fruition.

An NFL source told the San Jose Mercury News on Thursday afternoon that the Miami Dolphins are on the brink of luring Harbaugh away from Stanford.

"Indications are that Jim Harbaugh will accept Miami's huge offer," The Mercury News' Tim Kawakami tweeted. "Not a done deal, but everything is pointing that way."

I still think he ends up at Michigan. Remember, the owner of the Dolphins is a Michigan alum and the Business School is named after him. Just a hunch.

Like Herbie said yesterday, I don't think JH has the temperament to be a successful NFL coach. Of course, wishful thinking on my part.

This was exactly my thought. Personally, I thought Mallett needed to leave anyway, but this only helps him.

Yeah, I don't think Michigan has a prayer at landing him, he will be going to the NFL, which helps us out in terms of recruiting.

Read that Ross checked with scUM, and was told that JH had not reciprocated interest in the scUM job, basically green-lighting his offer
