Part of me believes all the pizza guy talk about him believing hairball goes to the NFL is just a smokescreen and he'll still end up in ann arbor...but a bigger part of me has total faith in m*ch*g*n's ability to [censored] things up.
I believe it is a smoke screen as well, but I believe he's just making it seem like he's trying to get Harbaugh to satisfy the fans and alumni. I've heard Michigan might not even offer the job to Harbaugh. Apparently their president, Mary Sue Coleman, is not a fan. She doesn't like the fact he's had a couple dui's, a nasty divorce and also she was not very pleased with his comments about Michigan steering players into certain majors. Don't know if it's true but seems completely plausible. I don't think there's any chance at Les Miles with the buyout. The smart money seems to be on Brady Hoke right now.

Questionable assumption - see this chart, true that is slightly dated but it does serve to illustrate the significant spread in salaries. Well established coaches make good coin - others, not so much. College football coaches can easily get within the range of "entry-level" NFL HC salaries - especially if they are renegotiating position, or making a school to school move if viewed as a desirable commodity, and if the university is actually willing to pony up an appropriate compensation package.

Evidently not:

...
Ross is willing to make Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in the NFL, which would place his salary in the $7-to-$8-million range, the sources said, after receiving a signal from the Stanford coach that he was now willing to listen seriously to the team's presentation.

 The NFL definitely has more money than brains. I think Harbaugh is a great coach and maybe he'll be around when OSU conducts their next interviews, but he's proven absolutely nothing at that level. Just like drafting players from college, they sink untold millions into unknown quantities.

Actually, I'm just jealous.

I wonder if he called her sweet pants at some point in the past?

Hey Fat Phil nice ring on his right hand, is that your 1998 National Championship ring?

Just sayin'....if it is and if you're short on cash, being unemployeed and all, I know a tatoo shop where you probably could get some "nice change" for it and/or a tattoo or two.

She went to Toledo on December 14, 2007 during the negotiations with RichRod, 3 days before he was announced as the coach.

I believe that a big reason that TSUN agreed to pay most of RichRod's buyout at WVU (and settle the lawsuit that WVU had files against RichRod), was in order to avoid her having to testify about the negotiations in Toledo. She had stated that she was in a separate room at the time when they were talking about the buyout, but I personally believe that was BS and she didn't want to be forced to testify about it in a West Virginia courtroom and risk perjuring herself, or at least exposing her earlier comments as untruthful. That's all speculation on my part, except for the fact that she was in Toledo when TSUN folks interviewed RichRod just before he was hired. Link

Harbaugh has had success at Stanford, but I wouldn't jump the gun on hiring the guy. We've seen it year after year: the young, fiery, and upcoming coach gets a contract for more than he's accomplished, and then he doesn't produce enough victories in accordance to his contract.

I think the guy will be a good coach, but I think the media's praise is a bit excessive.

jumping from college to pro is a completely different animal IMO. very few college coaches have had success. People will say, "yeah, but JH played QB in the NFL, so he knows what it's all about." Yeah, so did Steve Spurrier, how did that work out.

I honestly think if he chooses not to come to UM, he should stay at Stanford and get Luck to stay. They've got a NC type team coming back next season.

The same thing could've been said four years ago if you take out Stanford and replace it with University of San Diego.

I find it funny that people are looking for a "proven" head coach, as if some of the up-and-coming guys are somehow deficient. Jim Harbaugh has more years of head coaching experience and more seasons of one loss or less at this point in his career than Urban Meyer had when he was hired by Florida.

Could any of these guys even be mentioned as candidates for big-time jobs without torches and pitchforks coming out?

"Coach A" - had spent three years at Denison and two years at Fredo (OH), and was coming off a victory in the Salad Bowl.

"Coach B" - had six years of head coaching experience at Fredo (OH) and only managed had only managed one season of less than three losses so far

"Coach C" - had just three years of experience as a head coach between Mississippi State and Washington, none of those seasons with a record better than 6-4.

Coach A was Woody Hayes before being hired by Ohio State
Coach B was Bo Schembechler before being hired by M*ch*g*n
Coach C was Darrell Royal before being hired by Texas

None of this is a guarantee that Harbaugh is going to succeed - but I don't think anybody who hires him is jumping the gun. If anything, right now is the time to find out what he has in him.

Ture, but a certain Tennessee booster only gives out $100 handshakes to guys without tattoos.
