I still think he ends up at Michigan. Remember, the owner of the Dolphins is a Michigan alum and the Business School is named after him. Just a hunch.

Like Herbie said yesterday, I don't think JH has the temperament to be a successful NFL coach. Of course, wishful thinking on my part.

If he ends up at TSUN, that just means that there's another failed coach in between....fine by me!

It isn't like the guy has no NFL experience though. He was an NFL QB for 15 years, comes from a coaching family, and his brother who has nearly the same demeanor has been very successful in Baltimore. He knows what the NFL is all about.
Playing QB and coaching are completely different. Steve Spurrier also played QB in the NFL, as another poster already noted.

I think this is the most likely outcome up north. It is a no loose situation for JH as long as the next scUM coach doesn't turn into a world beater. He goes to the NFL now to take his shot at the big time and line his pockets.

If he is successful he stays put and if he ends up to be only a good college coach I would imagine the next scUM coach will be on the hot seat in 4 years and will have much better talent* in place for the next coach than RR.

*Assuming the next coach realizes where he is at and recruits accordingly.

Don't confuse Ross as a person who misunderstands where his interests and those of his alma mater diverge. He's already paid back TSUN with the donation to their business school. I'm very sure that he believes he's more than paid his dues.

Herbie is just trying to cover for once again blowing a "scoop".

Miami and Harbaugh no longer dancing together - Sparano retained as coach

Whatever sparked the decision -- whether money, lack of interest on Harbaugh's part or a simple gut feeling from Ross -- the team now will have to do some damage control as it regains its footing after a bizarre few days.
Bolded parts are my guesses on the most influential factors.

Also in the same piece ...
NFL.com reported Thursday night that Stanford increased its offer to keep Harbaugh for at least another season. The school's proposal, including all bonuses and clauses, would pay him more than the 49ers' proposal.

. Let me guess--if Harbaugh doesn't go to UM (obviously, it would be because UM didn't want him, not the other way around), you think that UM will get either Meyer, Cowher or Gruden. Is that right?

UM's coaching staff will have Tony Dunjy as HC, with coordinators Cowher and Gruden, not to mention Meyer will take the place as their quarterbacks coach. Rumor has it that Bellicheck is going to give up at the Pats and come back just so he can be part of this super dream team.

Now...

WHERES THE FLIGHT TRACKER!?!@?#

Also, I'm hearing Mike Singletary as linebackers coach.

Somebody make sure this hasn't already been posted somewhere...

Jim Harbaugh mulling coaching options - ESPN

Jim Harbaugh remains the football coach at Stanford. Where he steps on the field next September, however, remains up in the air.

Harbaugh appears to be choosing between the Cardinal, a team he led to a 12-1 record this past season, and the San Francisco 49ers, the nearby NFL team that met with him for five hours earlier this week and reportedly offered him a five-year contract.

A source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that Stanford is the favorite and an announcement on Harbaugh's fate could come as soon as Friday.

On Thursday, Harbaugh met with top Stanford officials -- including university president John Hennessey -- so that the school could make its best offer to try to retain him. The university reportedly upped an offer it had made to Harbaugh in December.

The 49ers met with Harbaugh for more than five hours Wednesday, and a source said on Thursday night, after news broke that Harbaugh would not go to the Miami Dolphins, San Franisco was willing to increase its offer.
