So... what's up with the new advertising?

I've emailed SportsWar with the URL the ad pointed to, and I'm loading and reloading pages now trying to find the ad myself so I can try and get a screenshot.

I've had to send a lot of emails about the new ads, and I'd say this was the proverbial back-breaking straw if we hadn't already experienced that weeks ago. We are actively looking at other solutions, and I hope to have something to report soon. Hopefully it goes without saying that the current state of affairs with the ads is completely unacceptable.

If/when you see something like this, it would be very helpful to get any offsite URLs involved, and a screenshot. That's how they track these things back to a specific network.

Wow, I just found it. Just, wow.

I've turned all ads off.

--update--

Seems as if they've isolated the ad, and they're shutting that network down entirely. I'll give it an hour or so to clear out of their server cache, then turn things back on for the sake of testing to see if it's out.

I've now wrapped all the ads in iframes, which pull locally hosted html files, which in turn bear the script that calls Sportswar, which in turn pulls in the other ad networks.

What this means, I *hope* is that the pages will load with or without the ad content, so that they can never slow the actual content down again. If the ads are slow, they'll load on their own time, with the page moving on without them.

I think. Also, it turns out that one specific network was responsible for both the previous survey pop-ups, and today's nightmare redirect ad. That network has been purged from not just BP, but SportsWar as a whole.

Please let me know if you see *anything* that shouldn't be on the site. Provide URLs and screens if at all possible. I'm cautiously optimistic that with this specific network out of the loop, that we've seen the end of the interstitial ads.
