Sounds like Casey is finaly gone

OK the womack deal cements beyond a shadow of a doubt that Dan O is BY FAR the biggest dipshit in the history of baseball. I fear how bad he will be ass raped if he tries to deal an outfielder.

Casey 8.5 M

Williams 1.1 M (iirc)
Aurilia 2M
Womack 1.1 M
cash to Pitt 2M

So we give up Casey and 2 minor leaguers for Womack, Williams and 2M in cash.

"What the mother fuck?", is all that comes to mind to say right now.

This franchise is headed to Clipperdom.

Exactally why do we need two utility infielders. That is beyond me. Aurilla already bitched and moaned last year he wasnt getting enough pt, think what he will do this year.

If you haven't already, and if you're Reds fans, you probably have. You need to listen to that shitheel O'Brian talking about how much of a contribution Williams will make next year! Moron. He also says Casey will be the mayor of Pittsburgh. Freaking idiot. Go to Cincinnattireds.com the MLB sight. I shouldn't have listened before dinner.

Here is an article from the Reds website. It looks like they are going to try and go after Matt Morris. That might be a decent pickup.

DALLAS -- The Reds made good on expectations they would be active traders at the Winter Meetings this week.

Reds general manager Dan O'Brien's primary goal was to improve his pitching staff in the offseason and had chips from his high-powered offense to deal. O'Brien and Cincinnati acquired left-hander Dave Williams from the Pirates, but it cost them popular first baseman Sean Casey.
The club shed Casey's $8.5 million salary and would have room to spend, if it wanted to go after more pitching in the coming weeks. All of its arbitration cases are already projected as part of the 2006 payroll.
Deals done: Traded 1B Sean Casey and cash to the Pirates for LHP Dave Williams; acquired 2B/OF Tony Womack from the Yankees for IF Kevin Howard and OF Ben Himes; offered arbitration to free agent infielder Rich Aurilia.
Rule 5 activity: none
Goals accomplished: Cincinnati looked to upgrade its starting rotation, which ranked last in the National League in 2005, and believed it achieved that with Williams. The lefty led Pittsburgh with 10 wins and pitched a career-high 138 2/3 innings this past season.
By getting Womack, the Reds added some speed to their lineup and a veteran with postseason experience to a young clubhouse.
Unfinished business: The Reds were among several teams pursuing free agent right-hander Matt Morris, but did not yet make any free agent acquisitions. The club needs at least one more starter and is still searching for a potential closer. GM's bottom line: "I think we all know, in order for our ballclub to be competitive, our pitching had to improve. When you lead the league in runs scored, it's all about trying to balance that out with an improved pitching staff."

Well no shit Dan O' why don't you do something about it. How long have we needed pitching.

Who the fuck wrote that article, dan O's kid?

I see they failed to mention Mr. Williams labrum surgery or extreme hittability. Instead they note 10 wins and a career high IP (138 fucking sucks btw).

Or mentioning Womack and his speed and veteran leadership. Since when did "veteran leadership" become synonymous with can't field, can't hit, can't get on base and is old and too expensive?

Rich fucking Aurilia possibly resigning for a couple fo Mill a year is a good thing as well?

George Grande himself had to have done this piece, no one else(save the moronic imbicile who actually made these moves) is that fucking stupid.

Dan O just makes me want to puke. What an absolute ass clown.

I would be more than ecstatic with the Morris pickup, but why in the hell would he want to come pitch in GABP for a bad team? I get the feeling we would have to overpay him, the same way we overpaid Milton, the difference being that Morris isn't terrible.

And as far as leadership, we have players like Larue, Freel, Griffey, and Dunn who should be leading the team. Bringing in an overpaid role player and citing leadership as one of the main reasons is an absolute joke.

OK so its 1M back to Pitt.

The net-net of the deals so far is:

we lose
Casey
2 minor leaguers

we get
Dave Williams
Tony Womack
5M cash

All in all pretty much one big pile of ho fuckin hum. Nothing at all thats helps or hurts us.

The big issue will come when they A) use some of that money on Rich fuckstick Aurilia B) don't lock up Dunn to a LTC C) get completely and utterly horse fucked by some intelligent GM and give awayeither Kearns or Pena for some shitty pitcher with arm troubles.

Dan O might not stop there...LaRue is getting expensive and has trade value. The other GM's will be lining up to fuck our retard GM like they found a hooker working on credit.

And to think yesterday you were happy when you heard about the Casey deal.

It is still mind boggling to me why we need 15 utility infielders and 7 utility outfielders and leaving spots for a whole 3 flyball pitchers in the worst stadium to be a fly ball pitcher.

Next season is going to be hard to watch.

When your favorite team trades for a player whose best quality is his "veteran leadership", it should be greeted with the same enthuisiasm as when a friend tries to set you up with a girl who has a "great personality".

Why keep Aurilla, why not play Freel everyday is my question. Our offense was obviously the best when he was on base and making things happen. Why do I have to sit and watch for a 3rd year in a row and say why is Freel not playing everyday. He does the little things and you need that on your team.

In addition, why trade for Womack when you already have Ryan Freel on your club, who is a similar player? IIRC, the outfield wasn't Womack's bread and butter with the Yankees when they tried him out there.

I see where Dave Williams gave up 20 HRs last year. Now he goes to GABP, which is a hitter's haven. I guess he was needed to give up the HRs the since departed Ramon Ortiz gave up last year in addition to Eric Milton.

If they trade Pena or Kearns, they better get Dontrell Willis or Barry Zito. Otherwise, what's the use? The Reds are loaded with average pitchers. But I said that about trading Casey too.

Dan O'Brien is an idiot. Any fool knows that the Reds need ground ball pitchers in that ball park. Except Dan O'Brien. Hopefully the new owner will do the rumored house cleaning real soon.

As some poster above said, the Womack trade has a definite Cardinal bias to it. I hope that same bias gets them Matt Morris, though. They are rumored to be after him with the "savings" from the Casey trade. The loud thunk you will hear is me dropping dead with a heart attack if it actually happens.

If this pack of limp dick, nutless, brainless, know-nothing shitbirds actually signed Morris his fucking arm would fall off right after he signs the contract.

I fucking hate Dan O'brien.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- In Matt Morris, the San Francisco Giants found the proven starter they've been coveting for months.
Not to mention an individual with a classy reputation who believes he can lead a young pitching staff and learn from everybody else along the way, too.
The free agent right-hander agreed to a $27 million, three-year contract with the Giants, leaving the St. Louis Cardinals after nine seasons. The deal has been in the works for weeks and became official after Morris passed a physical Monday morning.

</NOSCRIPT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>"I'm ecstatic to be here," Morris said when formally introduced at the city's waterfront ballpark. "I appreciate the organization for having the interest in me. That really showed me a lot, even though (they) didn't know this was my first choice."
He will receive a $2 million signing bonus at the end of his contract and is scheduled to make $5 million next season and $9.5 million in both 2007 and '08. The contract contains a $9 million club option for a fourth season that could go up to as much as $11 million with escalators based on performance. He would receive a $1 million buyout if the option is declined.
The 31-year-old Morris went 14-10 with a 4.11 ERA last season and won his first eight decisions for the Cardinals, who lost to the Houston Astros in the NL championship series. But St. Louis didn't pursue Morris with the same fervor as the Giants, who were desperate to add a top starter to what had become a patchwork rotation the past two seasons.
The Cardinals offered Morris a two-year deal for $13 million.
"I knew that's a slap in the face," said Giants catcher Mike Matheny, who worked with Morris in St. Louis and considers the pitcher a good friend. "I'd been in the same situation."
Giants general manager Brian Sabean said as soon as the season ended -- after the Giants missed the playoffs for the second straight year -- that upgrading the team's starting pitching was his top priority.
The Giants welcomed Morris, a 22-game winner in 2001, with a greeting on the main center-field scoreboard at SBC Park. And manager Felipe Alou made the long flight from Florida for the announcement. Morris and his wife, Heather, also live in Florida.
"It's a very special moment to have a man of his stature and a pitcher of his stature," Alou said. "We needed it badly. When I left the winter meetings, I had lost all faith. Brian wasn't saying anything. It was a tough trip going home, then all of a sudden it's a beautiful trip coming back here. Everybody knew we needed a pitcher. To find a man like this ... it's a Christmas gift."
Sabean received strong recommendations from numerous scouts, and Matheny.
It's been a lucrative offseason for pitchers, and Morris has paid attention.
"I guess it's a rare commodity, a guy who can throw a ton of innings -- 200 innings, there's nothing better for a manager and a bullpen," Morris said. "Nowadays, that seems to be rare. I'm looking to put my piece in, save the bullpen and win some games."
Morris is 101-62 with a 3.62 ERA in his career. He became the 12th player in St. Louis franchise history to win 100 games when he beat the Giants on Aug. 20.
"Simply put, Matt Morris is a winner," Sabean said. "He's a gamer who not only gives his team a chance to win every time he pitches, but as his record indicates, he's around to collect the win himself. Matt will be a perfect complement to the top of the rotation and provide valuable leadership to our younger pitchers."
Morris will join right-hander Jason Schmidt in a San Francisco rotation that's undergone several changes in the last year, including the departure of Kirk Rueter and also probably Brett Tomko after San Francisco declined to offer him arbitration last week.
Returning to the rotation are left-hander Noah Lowry and top prospect Matt Cain, who made his long-awaited major league debut Aug. 29 and won two games in his seven starts as a rookie.
Morris had "eight or nine suitors," said his agent, Barry Axelrod, but the Giants were at the top of the pitcher's list. Morris made his final decision Saturday after giving the Cardinals a final chance, then he called Matheny to give him the good news they would be teammates again. "I was excited," Matheny said. "He's somebody I think is going to help us."
