Game Thread Sparty at tOSU, Oct 1, 3:30 ET, ABC/ESPN

BTN said earlier that Michigan State is #1 in the country against the pass. (I'm guessing that's a statistic, based on passing yards allowed.) And Ohio State CAN'T have good passing numbers, compared to the rest of the country. So hopefully Ohio State can get a good running game going early and force Michigan State to move up to stop it. Then the Bucks can spread it out and run around Michigan State.

Hopefully.

The only team of note they played against was Notre Lame so...I can't read too much into that. Then again, their stats will go up if Braxton Miller doesn't throw at them and runs around too much.

Agreed. It seems like the intensity has dwindled over the past few years. In the early 2000's it seemed like the place rocked for every Big Ten game. I remember being there for Iowa in 2003 and that environment (for a non-Michigan/Wisconsin Big Ten game) was insane.

Penn State. 2002. I couldn't hear shit for a week afterward.

106th passing offense I believe (somewhere around there)... It's going to be tough. Going to need to hit on some completions early and take some deep shots to back the defense off or it could be a long day.

Then we need to throw early and often to keep them out of the box to open up the run game. Like stated earlier, give Miller some easy completions, spread it out and air it out then hit them in the face with the run.

I'm honestly not worried about this game all that much honestly. The entire game hinges on if we can get the passing game going imo. If we can, then I see us winning by 2, possibly 3 TDs. Let's not forget that MSU looked absolutely dreadful, and I do mean dreadful, against Notre Dame with a decent offense and a terrible defense. If MSU couldn't put up points against them, do you really think they'll put up points against us? If our defense can remain focuses (it seems like most of the yards against Colorado came when the defense looked like it lost a bit of focus), I don't see MSU putting up more than 20 pts against us.

Yeah, their defense faced passing juggernauts like FCS (aka I-AA) Youngstown State, Sun Belt powerhouse Florida Atlantic (currently 0-3) and and Western Michigan (currently 1-3).

I think Miller passes for 200+ and runs for another 100+...coming out party on national TV.

Spartan run defense was so poor the Irish didn't have to pass. I mean, somehow a team that lost to Michigan managed to put 31 on Sparty. (and could only score 13 against Pitt) How they did that is irrelevant.

Problem is that these transitive evals don't mean much. If they did, I might point out that, as awful as it is to think it, ND is probably a better team than we are RIGHT NOW. Not sure they will be by seasons end, but we are a team searching for an identity.
