Spring Fundraiser and a New Server (Merged)

Here is the poster I'd let you have as a friendly gesture for donating... since many people might be interested in this I would probably let you have the digital file and you could print it at Kinkos or something (which would be cheaper than the shipping to get it to you).

It looks really sweet at 14"24" laminated, as seen in these pics:

Here is the problem we are starting to get into....

Clarity does not want to have any type of premium content so as to keep the site 100% free. Yet, we are using gimmicks such as t-shirts and posters to entice people to donate a few bucks back to a guy who has given all of this out of his pocket and has to be talked into having annual fundraisers.

No offense to anyone intended, but why do people need rewards for doing what is right??

If you enjoy this place, you should donate out of respect, a sense of obligation, and basic morality. Your donation is not to Clarity as a person, but is a donation to this commuity we all have a part in.

I agree 100%...I like the fact that some of our content is available only to registered members, but I (like many of you) do NOT support the idea of paid premium content.

It's not the money. I donated more of my own free will than I would pay for a premium subscription. I'm thinking of the 13 year old kid that can't afford premium info, can't get tickets but still wants to be a Buckeye and follow his (or her) team. This site supported me when I was unable to give anything back and NEVER did I feel pressure to give money.

If you honestly aren't able to give, you will still be treated as an equal on this site...no explanations needed. If that is your situation, find a way to contribute in other ways. Even if is just submitting intelligent, well researched posts...it adds value. This thread goes out to those who are able to give but think that, because the site is free, their donations aren't needed.

Something this great has to be supported by those who benefit from it. To say Clarity has sacrificed a lot for this site is an understatement, but almost all of us have put at least a part of our own talents, thought and Buckeye passion into it. You will only get as much out of this as you put in. Everything helps, no donation is too small...we ask that you give of what you are able, no more.

We can never give back what we've all received...let's just keep it going for future members.

Can someone else please give this a Great Post award? I'm very serious. This is about Buckeye values, pure and simple.

Guys, I agree with all of you and I want BP to be open to everyone. What I was suggesting was that, as long as we are selling tee-shirts and doing all kinds of other stuff, perhaps we should consider making certain aspects of the site premium.

I am very much okay with not charging and prefer it, but thought, gosh, this is an important part of my life and if it means that BP survives longer term, then I would be willing to pay.

I stand in awe of Clarity and all the mods who put so much effot into this. I respect it and I wish everyone who has the capacity could just donate without being asked.

You're kidding me...only $1000 from a 3,800-member site? This total BS. I cannot believe folks can't frickin' cough up $5-10 once every six months for the best Buckeye football chat site around. There are no pop-up ads, no "premium" info that's unavailable to general membership, we have great game clips, the arcade games, Romper Room, etc. And all this is free. Clarity pays for this stuff all out of his pocket, and he's a guy with health issues which prevent him from earning a really good living, so it's really not easy for him to maintain the site.

I think we should have a $5-a-year membership fee. I know Clarity was absolutely adamant about nothing being "premium" here, but the fact this site has gone from around 1,000 members to nearly 4,000 in about a year wasn't foreseen. Almost half of the new members joined after we put up the video clips and locked it down to membership. Now we have about 2,000 folks who do nothing but mooch downloads. Charge all members $5 a year for site access (folks who have donate a minimum of $5 in this drive are exempt), or $20 for lifetime membership.

Or, if that's not acceptable to Clarity, have an award icon for those those who donated, so those who didn't donate are easily distinguishable (the ol' guilt trip).
