Good points, but those are not the type of people we are talking about.

We are talking about the people that are able to stand and just don't like to get up and down for big plays and that type of thing. Big third downs, goal line stands. They want to sit on their hands and yell down in front. Those are the ones.

Also the people like the guy you were talking about need to understand that it is a football game and people will be standing, which it seems like he understood.

Exactly.

Misanthrope, you were a good man making sure you let the old guy behind see as much of the game as reasonably possible...and I would like to think that he didn't mind all that much when you did stand to cheer the team. I would make sure I wasn't much of a hindrance to someone elderly or handicapped fan behind me. But some sissy who wants to sit on his/her ass whilst dining on truffles and sipping on Cognac can stand the hell up when I do...

I'm 5'3". I stand so I can see past the person SITTING in the row in front of me. I don't just deal with shit like this at the game, I face it every day. You know what I do? I work around it. And if I'm standing in front of somebody and they tell me "down in front," I'll tell them to deal with it just like I do.

I took a road trip out to the Illinois game in 2002. We were of course on the verge of a national championship, and Buckeye fans were traveling well. There were four rows of Buckeye fans in front of me, and we were all standing and cheering like crazy. Some stupid Illini fan behind me kept bitching the whole game about sitting down. She even exclaimed to me, "I came from out of town to see this game!!!" I then turned around, looked at my scarlet jersey, and said, "Where the hell do you think I came from, down the street?!" If they wanted an unobstructed veiw, perhaps she could got some more prissy alumni from her sorority to buy tickets, so people like me couldn't go online and buy then THE NIGHT BEFORE THE GAME. Then they could've sat there and chit chat about all the guys they screwed ten years ago with an unobstructed view of the field.

And you know what? I get too stoked for Buckeye games to sit down even when I watch the game in my own home.

Is there any law against making SRO sections and rows in stadiums? Seems like a win-win proposition. Those who like to stand and yell all game have a designated area in which to congregate, and the ticket office can stuff a few more bodies into the stadium. Kind of like concert halls that are fire-coded to have so many in the building, but no one has a designated spot in which to place themselves. I'm guessing the slope makes that a tricky proposition, but you never know.

I decided not to get Block-O tickets this year so I could be in a seating group with my friends. I was wondering how mild it would be in other sections compared to block-O, my friend assured me it was pretty crazy, I only hope I am with a bunch of "standers".

I think it is the duty of fans to stand and cheer their asses of, it's what creates home field advantage. For those people who want to sit all game and stare at their programs, you'd probably have a much better time at home.

I understand that there are times to sit, but when it's 3rd down and we need a big play on D...you had better believe that I'm up making some serious noise.

For those who are going to the Texas game, you had better be ready to rock that place out, if not please sell your ticket to someone who will help OSU win the game. It's our duty to create the homefield advantage.

If you're in an A or AA student section, you will be standing. As for C deck I don't know.

Standing Rules for the Texas Game-

1) Don't

2) At the very least follow Grad21's example on page three

3)Whether you are standing or sitting, you better be yelling while the Texas O is in the huddle. Thats right in the huddle, this is before breaking the huddle, why give them any chance to really get a play in.

I understand the student section standing the whole game and I do it too when I sit in one of those sections (the TV timeouts are plenty long to rest the legs). It is funny seeing the one dork who stands the whole game by themself with the rest of their section sitting down. Personally I believe that everyone should take a look around and stand or sit depending on the rest of their section. Last year my parents had to switch seats with my brother and I from 11A to 2B because my mom couldn't stand the whole game like her section was. FYI if you don't want to stand don't sit in 11A. :p
I am in favor of standing only in pivotal situations (except for the student areas) because it really adds to the electricity of the stadium. When everyone in the stadium stands up you know something big is going to happen. I still remember how loud the closed end of the stadium got when Washington got backed up close to the endzone a couple years ago. I swear I saw Cody Pickett shit his pants.

A little courtesy always goes a long way, but remember that it goes both ways. We live in a democracy and the stands are kind of a democracy. If you are the only dipshit standing, you should take it upon yourself to sit the fuck down. Nobody should need to tell you. The same thing goes for the grumpy old assholes who are too lazy (or whatever) to stand up. You need to go with the flow of the game. You can affect that flow with your own enthusiasm, but you can also make the experience really suck for those around you by simply being a self-centered asshole. There are times to stand, and there are times when it is probably best just to have a seat.

I stood most of the scUM game, and my voice was gone by the end of the 3rd quarter (man, that was fun). However, I also was cognizant of the old man behind me. I didn't stand unless the guy in front of me stood (but I still yelled my ass off!), because the man behind me had a hard time getting to his seat, and could never stand the whole game. Even then, I crouched as much as I could so he could see the game, too. It worked beautifully. This man loved the Buckeyes, and he was cheering the team on before I was even conceived, so he deserved that much respect. Does that mean he wasn't as passionate about the Buckeyes as the rest of us? Hell no. He loved SEEING us stomp the shit out of scUM, and he cheered as best he could. He just wasn't physically able to stand all day. Does that mean he doesn't have the "right" to SEE the game from the seat he purchased? Hell no. Think about that.

That is the only possible reason for someone not to be standing at a game, they have a physically problem preventing it.

You need to go with the flow of the game.

Perfect, Artillary. That's a great way to explain it.

Misanthrope, I also share your opinions.

I usually leave Buckeye games hoarse and exhausted. I cheer as hard as I can. I stand up, I yell, I do it all. But I'm also aware of the people around me. If the people in front of me aren't standing, I don't stand. If the people in front stand up, I stand. Those are kind of the the unwritten rules, and most people are able to work with those rules, even old people who can't stand the whole day.

when they put a SRO section at mid field in the A deck then i'll be the first to sign up.

can we rename it the no whiners section?

I sit at games: during the long TV TO's, when there is an injury, when the opposing team scores, or when everyone else is sitting and I am the only person standing.

I stand at games: during every critical moment, when ther urge hits me, when my buddy is mixing us a drink, when the ball is thrown deep, on big plays, big hits...and numerous other moments when the football gods request our standing attention.

I see both sides of the argument here...
OSU grad is exactly right. He is a normal fan at the game. If it is a tie game in the 4th quarter and scUM is punting the ball to Ginn-damn right I'll be standing. If we are whooping Indiana 35-3 in the 3rd quarter, and you are standing screaming at the 3rd stringers-you probably need to reasses how your fellow fans might be viewing you. I have been to dozens of OSU games-quite drunk at about 1/3 of them-, and I have never had a dispute about when I should sit or stand, or when anyone around me should sit or stand. I took my mom to her 1st OSU game for the Washington State game in 2002, and she caught on real quick.

We seem to be skipping over the middle areas... obviously you should be standing when its a huge play... and obviously you should be sitting if we're toasting IU and everyone else is sitting...

But when you don't have a poor old guy behind you (which I've yet to encounter anywhere around me in my 7 BigTen games I've attended) that can't stand, how do you decide?

There are people who are too lazy to stand for third downs that are perfectly healthy and aren't doing a disservice to anyone by doing so. There are some who want to sit down before the first kickoff or the first possession of the rival team's offense.

IMO, those people are being lazy and selfish and ruining what you paid for, and that was to come root on your team. Rarely is it because they cannot stand for 20-30 seconds (or however long it takes from when they break the huddle to the end of the play)... its usually because they are too lazy.

If we had more standing room only seats, our stadium would be much more intense to play in. If there were more sections that cheered steadily like the BlockO does, we'd be known as the toughest place to play by any team.

well, i haven't been to a game since '02... i saw the Indiana game, and well, we sat... of course we jumped up and yelled like maniacs when Gamble ran the reverse for a TD and MoC scored his TDs and whatnot, but we sat...

then, i went to the Fiesta Bowl: we stood. THE WHOLE GAME. i think i sat once when they called a timeout in the first OT, but that was from pure physical and emotional exhaustion... now, there were a couple nice old grannies who have been cheering for the Buckeyes since my father was a twinkle in grandad's eye behind us... i kept checking to make sure that they could see, and asking if i was in the way, and they said no... so me and my brother went completely apeshit the entire game... when it was over, the two nice old grannies gave me and my brother a big hug and a kiss and said, "i think we won because of you." which to me was a pretty big affirmation for me going bananas like i did...

when we're whooping someone, i don't mind sitting, but when it's a big game, late in the season, i can't even sit down in my house... too much nervous excitement to sit... that's just how it goes...
