Tackett Curtis (LB Southern Cal, transfer to Wisconsin)

Bowles is better. He will be a stud for Georgia. Curtis isn’t that far behind and Knowles made him the primary target at LB for a reason. This one isn’t over.
It pretty much is over.
Balls are flooding in for USC.
I’m on record on questioning Tackett’s projection to the next level. But losing him to USC when Knowles targeted him and put so much effort into him is embarrassing.

Different types of LB, Bowles is more complete than Curtis. Knowles did make him a priority, and I remember Tuf Borland, Teradja Mitchell and Tommy Eichenberg were also made priorities as well when they were recruited. And all 3 were seen as 1 dimensional in college. Curtis reminds me of a number of Wisconsin LBs, that were stellar in the run game, but couldn't cover a spread offense to save their lives. Curtis would be a good addition, but his strength is mainly against run oriented teams, and he'd need an athletic OLB next time, to go along with the Bullet/S(or whatever position Hickman is playing).

Calm down there tiger. Knowles is in his first year, and isn't exactly known for his recruiting prowess, yet. Knowles is known as a coach/teacher.
This was an uphill battle from the beginning, and honestly before Knowles the OSU fan base didn't even know this kids name. The fact that we were even in the top 3 was big. Knowles, Frye, Eliano and Walton are doing their best, but 2024 will give them enough time to actually build relationships, and also for the '23 and '24 recruits and beyond to watch OSU's success on the field.

For the most part I agree. I think we have to give him and Frye the opportunity to gain goodwill as a OSU coach. Neither has really coached at a high caliber school like OSU before. It sort of unfair to either to say they are historically bad recruiters just for that reason.

Let's keep an eye out for next year.

Agreed! Both relied on winning with 3stars and an occasional 4star win. They're barely known by higher rated recruits. And even though Knowles has been in on Curtis since arriving, let's be honest, he was never going to get Curtis to go to Stillwater, just like Frye would've never gotten guys like Okunla and Alinen to UCLA. We all knew that Knowles is not a major recruiter, and he wasn't brought in to do so, he was brought in to coach a great defense and teach his schemes. He will win some battles, but the fact that the defense hasn't said a negative word and few have transferred out is an even bigger recruiting win.

I agree, ciddy. Knowles isn't known as a recruiter, and if he fixes the defense that's obviously great, but you do need to recruit somewhat at any coaching job, and losing out on your by far #1 priority is not a good sign.

Challenges to recruiting for all defensive position groups but the DLine shouldn’t be all that surprising this year.

Nothing shown on the field last year excites a recruit and most of the defensive staff is new here. Just a lot of things working against an elite defensive recruiting class this year.

Exactly! 2023 was going to be a crapshoot with an entirely new defense, and only 1 coach left on that side of the ball.
The positive is, that there is a ton of young talent on the defense. Some of the best defensive players are Soph(JT, Sawyer, Burke, Hancock, Johnson, Hall, Williams, Hicks) and Juniors (Hickman, Williams, Ransom, Martinez, Trayanum, Chambers, Eichenberg, Simon).

It could come down to factors that Knowles couldn't do anything about.

NIL, Hollywood and sunshine, NIL, a picture Troy Polamalu, NIL....

We don't really know if this kid was truly as big of a priority as we have tended to believe. In the end, he's a 4 star, and maybe he wanted to be treated like a rock star, and OSU wasn't willing to take it that far.

If there is a personality issue on Knowles part, then maybe he needs to hand the reigns over to somebody who knows how to be good at developing relationships.

Who knows, but let's not assume this comes down to Knowles.

The joke is this kid chose Alex Grinch as the DC, who has been a ok DC, but far from a evil genius like Knowles.

I'll be waiting for this kid to be gone from USC in a year or 2.
