Suitland All-Met Taivon Jacobs (left) (John McDonnell - THE WASHINGTON POST) Suitland rising senior Taivon Jacobs, an All-Met wide receiver and sprinter, orally committed to Ohio State on Thursday and said in a telephone interview he plans to play football and run track in college.

During a discussion with his family Wednesday night, Jacobs narrowed his final choices to Ohio State and Maryland. Jacobs said the talk ranged from the academic offerings of both schools to his track ambitions to how he might fit into the offenses of each program. When he woke up this morning, Jacobs said, the answer seemed pretty clear.

?Their program is great, their family and tradition is great, and the way they run their offense, I felt like that?s the type of player that I am and that I could be a great fit in,? Jacobs said of the Buckeyes.

Jacobs, who is 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, believes his quickness will help him make an impact at Ohio State. He said the Ohio State coaches told him they envision utilizing him much the same way first-year Buckeyes Coach Urban Meyer did Percy Harvin and Chris Rainey when Meyer coached at Florida. Harvin and Rainey made their marks carrying the ball out of the backfield and catching the ball in Florida?s passing game.

?Coach Urban Meyer loves speed, and that?s something that I?ve got,? said Jacobs, a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com. ?I think I can be very productive in their offense.?

Can't wait to see jacobs hit the field in S&G and drive opposing defenses crazy while in the slot and split in various positions! I don't think the big 10 is ready for what urban is cooking up

.... while also returning several kickoffs for scores. He was recently timed in the 4.35 range for the 40-yard dash, and Jacobs will get a chance to wear a number of different hats at Ohio State. ... ?Saw newest Ohio State commit Taivon Jacobs at a camp this summer,? Scout.com?s Midwest recruiting analyst Allen Trieu said of Jacobs.
?(He is a) quick, polished route runner that gave DB?s fits. Not big, but a player.? .... He played wide receiver, running back and defensive back during his junior season, but his role with the Buckeyes will be ?offensive playmaker.?
1. It's nice that he was in tOSU camp ... that makes him much more of a known quantity. Less risk. More of the real deal.
2. I'd be happy even if his role was not "offensive playmaker" but rather just "punt blocker".
3. Now we have big backs, fast backs (pivots), and big fast backs.
4. 4.35 in the 40? That's fast.

If Oregon had an elite D they would have had a NC in the last few years becuase their offense has been pretty impressive. We have always had a great D and it's going to get even better. Now we are assembling an offense that should move the chains with guys like Taivon so it should be pretty special. Welcome aboard young man, you will look great in the end zone in front of 105,000 fans!

Highly-Recruited WR Commits To Ohio State
Highly Rated Recruit Jacobs Commits To OSU Football

COLUMBUS, Ohio --

He's run 40-yard times below 4.4 seconds. And when you watch video of Taivon Jacobs playing football, he looks the part.

Jacobs, a senior-to-be from District Heights, Md., announced Thursday he will play his college football at Ohio State. Jacobs scored 19 touchdowns during his junior season and showed flashes of brilliance as a kick returner and a safety as well.

"I just felt it was the best place for me. They've got their family and tradition." Jacobs told NBC4 Thursday by phone.

Jacobs is the the first player to commit to the 2013 class as a receiver, although his role at Ohio State could be diverse.

"I was excited to hear I was the 1st receiver to commit... coach Urban Meyer said if he could he'd want me to play this year. He was honest with you -- kept it real." Jacobs said. "I like being a game changer, but if they need me at defense i'd surely play defense."
