TE Marcel Frost (official thread)

I clearly see now that he did this to himself. but it just makes me mad that two great athletes pull these stunts like this and put themselves in a doghouse. thats why i feel they are traitors. they would have been good players, but chose bad decisions and ended up screwing themselves over. its their fault for doing this.

Doghouse?

I disagree with your opinion about Frost.

Realistically he could have been in dog-house mode even after coming back. Going to Jacksonville State frees up the scholarship he would have held this year and next, there is no way that is a selfish consideration. Last but not least, his words reveal a willingness to accept responsibility for his actions, and not back-stab the Ohio State University.

The only part in this that serves his interest is the opportunity to play this year, on a lower Division squad with less media attention.

Remaining in the ""doghouse"" after completing your punishment, suspension, etc. is an illogical practice. For example, if Tressel doesn't think 1 year is enough, suspend the kid for 1 year and 3 games. But then let the kid come back and compete for a job based upon his performance.

first of all, that's exactly what happened in 05... Frost admitted he put himself in the doghouse, and after that was over he got a shot at TE. Since that wakeup call, he screwed up again, so I hardly think he is a victim of an unfair punishment.

As for the larger picture, tressel doesn't feel that he owes it to the media/public to spell out the punishments of his players. Just b/c frost will be back on the team in a year doesn't mean his punishment will be over.

What's hot?
The addition of Marcel Frost last week gives the Tigers a sure-handed threat at tight end and a great blocker. He was slated as the starting tight end at Ohio State before being suspended for a year and transferring to JSU. He could be the Tony Gonzalez of the SWAC.

Marcel Frost

I was wondering if anyone had any news on him, if he's still enrolled in school, intends to return to the program after being suspended. This news all happened real fast last year, then just seemed to disappear.

JSU football: Tight end Frost may miss season

By David Brandt
[email protected]

The football season hasn't even started, but Jackson State quarterback Jimmy Oliver might have already lost one of his passing targets.

Tight end Marcel Frost reported to campus along with the rest of team, part of an 89-man roster that begins practice today at 11:15 a.m.

But Frost, who still has a brace on his left leg after breaking his fibula in the spring game five months ago, isn't sure if he'll be healthy in time to make a difference this season.

Though he walks without a noticeable limp, he hasn't been cleared to practice.

"It's frustrating because I can't be on the field doing the conditioning," Frost said. "I've stayed strong in the weight room and done a lot of work in the pool, but there's some things I just haven't been able to do."

Frost, a senior who already redshirted one season when he played for Ohio State, said if he can't get ready for the majority of this season he will apply for a sixth-year medical redshirt.

Last season, Frost (6-foot-5, 255) was the starting tight end and caught 10 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.

Tigers search for TE in case Frost can't go

By David Brandt
[email protected]

The jury's still out on whether Jackson State senior tight end Marcel Frost will be able to play this season, so the coaching staff is searching for a replacement in case they get bad news.

Frost broke the fibula bone in his left leg in the JSU spring game and hasn't been cleared to practice.

"It would be bad if Frost can't play, but we've got some young guys who are working hard," JSU quarterback Jimmy Oliver said. "There's a lot of older receivers for young guys to learn from so they should be OK."

FROST RETURNS

Marcel Frost returned to the Jackson State practice field for the first time since the spring game last March.

Frost (6-5, 260), who broke the fibula bone in his left leg during the final few minutes of the spring game, was cleared by doctors on Tuesday to practice in shoulder pads and shorts. He could be ready for the opener against Delta State on Sept. 1, but coaches are aiming for the beginning of Southwestern Athletic Conference play against Mississippi Valley State on Sept. 22.

"It's great to see," Comegy said. "His presence might be the final piece of the puzzle we need."

Its like none of these kids who transfer ever mount to anything... it's very sad... u just keep reading update after update about guys not even starting or getting hurt...

Any transfer from the last 3-4 yrs ever go somewhere and blow up??

EJ Underwood seemed to do okay, but the rest of these guys all have problems.. they'd probably be better off just staying at OSU and getting their degrees

Mike Furrey... but, that's like 8 years ago. Nick Goings did o.k. at Pitt and on to the NFL, again about 8 years ago. JaJa Riley did absolutly nothing at UNLV. None come to mind over the last 4-5 years that ever did anything.

Mike Furrey was a walk-on.....I really don't consider him a true transfer.

He went to Hilliard and walk-on as a wide reciver with the likes of David Boston.......so he transfered to Northern Iowa I do believe.

I think Frost will be fine, plenty of guys have been drafted and made it professionally from Jackson St.

Ready to roar

Touted TE Frost back from injury

Kareem Copeland ? [email protected] ? August 18, 2008
Out of sight, out of mind? Not quite.

Jackson State fans talk about Marcel Frost like he's some kind of mythical creature come to life. Like something they've heard about forever but have never actually seen.
They know the Ohio State transfer has played in front of national audiences in places like Michigan Stadium and against Notre Dame in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl. They've seen the imposing 6-foot-5, 255-pound frame. The soft hands, quick feet and fiery temperament of the tight end have been documented.
But, except for 10 catches in 2006, Tigers fans haven't witnessed the potential so many talk about.
"I feel like I have something to prove to everybody," Frost said. "I want to show everybody that it's not just hype and that I really can play.
"I get anxious, my hands start sweating when I start thinking about that first game. A big smile comes across my face. I'm just ready to go."
Frost's coming-out party was delayed a year when he broke his leg in the fourth quarter of the 2007 spring game. He caught a pass over the middle and was brought down from behind while trying to stiff-arm a defensive end. His left leg was caught underneath the defender as Frost was brought down - snap.

Frost now bigger part of offense

Kareem Copeland ? [email protected] ? October 2, 2008

That was the only way to list the Jackson State tight end through the first three games of 2008. He had one catch for 21 yards in the season opener and that was it.
The lack of productivity was baffling considering how much coach Rick Comegy preached about using the Ohio State transfer during the preseason. The third-year coach regularly calls Frost his best offensive player and swears the 6-foot-5, 255-pounder will play in the NFL.
So, why was Frost playing the role of the Invisible Man in an offense averaging just 13.2 points a game?
"We had to go to more formations that involved him, that had him in the game," Comegy said. "Now we're utilizing those formations and they're starting to be our best formations - where we can utilize protection, utilize the running game, utilize all of our phases.
"We weren't using them as much (before)."
