Rescues I presume???? :banger: My law partner had a couple of those. They were squirrelly from the abuse and very timid. When my oldest was about four we went to her house to visit, and my son saw the long neck and head of her greyhound peeking around the corner. "DINOSAUR!!!!", he screamed while excitedly pointing at it. :lol: I still give him grief about that. :biggrin:

They are adopted retired racers. Ours are not squirrelly at all and love people. We used to take them to local Petsmarts for "meet & greets" to encourage greyhound adoption when we lived there in Jacksonville. They are too old for that now, but still like meeting people in smaller doses.

I could see how a kid would think dinosaur. :biggrin:

I have a rescue mutt (we think black lab and whippet, among other breeds, but have never tested her DNA). She loves the Buckeyes and is awesome.

I've had huskys, mutts, collies, and labs in the past but I must chime in that German Shepherds Rock! I don't think I will ever buy another breed again after living with our current dog for 9 years.

Smartest dog I have ever owned.

This dog can open doors with her paws, both turning door nobs and lifting gate latches. But she has never run away. Knows all of her toys by name and will bring you the specific ones when you ask. Incredibly well behaved. Great Frisbee dog with a huge vertical leap. She will pace the house nervously until all the family is present and then she will pick a spot in the middle of us to sit.

And is very forgiving of children and their shenanigans. Neighbor kids are always hugging her, grabbing her tail, petting and rubbing her and she puts up with it all. Treats them all gently and to their delight will even pull them around the house when they hold on to her tug-o-war toys.

I taught our children early how to behave around animals and always to be gentle with the dog, but kids will be kids. I was at the other side of the room one day when the boy decided to do a Jimmy Superfly Snuka dive off the couch on to the hips of this particular 95 lb dog. It happened so quickly, but I saw (in slow motion it seemed) the dog turn around jaws agape ready to take a chunk out of whoever had just caused her pain. When her head turned and she saw who it was, her jaws snapped shut, she stood up, licked him in the face and limped out of the room.

Incredibly protective of the kids too. My wife and I were walking the dog once with one of the kids in a stroller a few years back, and a neighbor walked by and asked if he could pet the dog, we said yes, he did, and dog wagged its tail. Neighbor then proceeded to make a quick movement towards the stroller, to tickle the baby presumably, and out of nowhere the dog launched herself with a growl towards this guy. Lucky we had a short leash on her and I could snap her back. She didn't want this guy anywhere near her kids. It was weird because she hadn't acted that way before or since. Maybe she knew something about him that we didn't?

Good for home security too. We had an ADT guy come to our door once trying to sell security systems. The dog saw him, charged the door barking like crazy and he ran back to his car. Not a very effective security system sales pitch:biggrin:

She's in her senior years now, and will be very hard to replace.

You can tell Sushi is on vacation...no posts in this thread yet.

The plans are to get a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog once I move to a bigger place...that's if we don't get another rescue.

We adopted a Maltese/Yorkie mix (Sloopy) last year as a puppy from a family who had allergies to her. I was a little nervous about getting a small dog, as we didn't want a "purse dog", but she turned out to be pretty great. Loves playing and roughhousing, has learned some tricks, and has a heck of a vertical leap. She can jump completely over the back of our couch from the floor, which has to be 4-5 times her height.

One of my best friends growing up had a German Shepherd. We lived in a neighborhood, two roads over and about a half mile apart. His dog would follow him over to my house in the summer until she got bored then she would just go straight through the yards inbetween our houses to get home.
