The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

Problem with not giving a fuck about the rankings this early is that we've seen time and again how the CFP committee is influenced by the preseason polls. .
Exactly why I don't any attention to them until it's time. Oh sure I get curious and take a peek at them, but the only reason they are out there now is so the writers and pundits can make a buck.

Problem with not giving a fuck about the rankings this early is that we've seen time and again how the CFP committee is influenced by the preseason polls. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point. I AM shocked at how many of those writers have Ohio State at 4 though. Pleasantly surprised.

I said it before months ago, ESPN starts with the premise, "The SEC is the best conference in the country" and goes from there.

When you have a financial incentive to do so, you do it and act surprised when everyone accuses you of being biased....and they have the same incentive to do so with Clempson now too.

The **ONLY** fix to the system is for ESPN to collapse from its own hubris.

The problem for those of you claiming not to care about polls is this.

The College Football Playoff and it's committee have a 12 year contract with ESPN.
ESPN and SEC have a contract currently running through 2034 and it is the flagship conference for the network, even going as far to distribute the conferences own network.

Everyone working for Mickey Mouse is obviously going to push their conference up and tout them as the best in the country to increase viewership on their network(s) with the added potential of getting as many of their teams in the CFB that oh by the way they get to broadcast, which will once again drive additional revenue for ESPN. It's common logic that ESPN is obviously biased towards the SEC, for financial reasons, and is going to do everything in their power to get as many SEC teams in the CFB. Why other conferences aren't more outspoken of this system is beyond me...

But to say that "polls don't matter" is just being naive because it certainly matters and helps drive the perception that the SEC SEC SEC is the best.

I totally agree. And after the redux of Sherman's march south, I suggest he turn north to CT.

So pour one out for Oklahoma and Clemson fans in their joyless slog to their respective conference championships games.

Oklahoma gets a Texas defense (probably twice, again) that just allowed seven trillion passing yards over the weekend to LSU, and that's the only ranked opponent left for half of last year's playoff foursome.

They're both great teams, regardless of whom they're facing. But instead of being gifted with big game anxiety and compensation by way of emotional currency for the next two-and-a-half months, they're just waiting for December to arrive.

An entire college football season will be played without them contributing anything of real value, leave for the Red River Rivalry. Please keep Oklahoma and Clemson fans in your thoughts.

Thank you for getting Situational today. Go Bucks. Beat Indiana.

That's not a complete list of teams, as scUM actually has 6 ranked teams to go, and obviously Sparty, Penn State, Maryland, and Wisky, etc play ranked teams to. However, Clemson and OU really have a "pussy schedule" and by far the easiest path to an undefeated season (which would all but lock up a spot in the CFPs for them).

Someone should do a side by side of the media polls and the first CFP poll of every year.

I'd bet they aren't all that dissimilar.

Point being, the media polls and ESPN narrative for 3 months leading up to the first CFP poll absolutely has an impact/influence on the CFP pollsters.

Tom VanHaaren: 1. Clemson; 2. Alabama; 3. Oklahoma; 4. Ohio State

10/14 Have 2 SEC teams in the Playoffs. :slappy:

I know we're supposed to understand Alabama goes to the Playoff every year but...

So far they've played: DUKE & NEW MEXICO STATE

Impressive.

Honestly.... no one should give a fuck about the rankings at this point w/ this data.

Also, in all these "scenarios" Ohio state always plays Clemson. Therefore another SEC rematch. If we're going to live in fantasyland, at least come up with more creative matchups!

Fucktards.

Good. I want Chase to serve their QB’s head on a Silver Bullet platter. Destroying Clemson should be the goal. Ohio State owes them a TKO.

Don't worry. ESPN will still argue that their schedule is tougher than Ohio State's.

Maryland lost their 5th straight game as a ranked team, and they hadn't been ranked since 2013.

As if you needed another reason to flush the rankings of "experts" down the nearest toilet. :roll1:

MSU and MD likely no longer ranked after this week. PSU, iffy whether they'll stay ranked for long.

The B1G choking against nobody's makes the pending tOSU wins no longer against "ranked teams" while the ranked SEC teams aren't choking.

The math is now likely 3 ranked teams left for tOSU..
