The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

We have not seen a non-Alabama SEC national champ since Auburn in whenever-the-fuck that was. All this SEC love comes down to Bama-Bama-Bama and E$PN TV deals.
The reason LSU has some recent ones? Saban.
The reason UF had some recent ones? Meyer.
The reason Aub had one? UF dismissed Meyer's 3rd QB to chase a NC and Auburn won the auction for the rental.

For me, it's not so much that it's Georgia... it's that it's a 2 loss non conference champion being set ahead of a 1 loss P5 conference champion. The committee said there was not much separation between 4 and 6. If that's true, and conference championships matter, then OSU should have been over UGA at 5. The argument should have been Ohio State or OU, and .. you know.. if OU won that argument, so be it.. at least there's an internal consistency... but.. in placing a 2 loss non conference champ ahead of a one loss conference champ... the committee has proven OSU was never really in the discussion and conference championships don't matter one bit.

Agreed completely. There's no basis on which a one-loss conference champ should be behind a two-loss non-conference champ, even more so when the first team has better wins than the second. This was a really bad move, precedent-wise, by the committee. Then again, you'll never hear about that from anyone discussing the subject, because clowns like Herbie think Georgia should've moved UP a spot for losing to Alabama.

Then again, the committee said the bolded above last year as well, when then-chairman Kirby Hocutt said in the week leading up to the BTCG that the gap between OSU and Alabama was razor thin (or something to that effect). Then, when OSU went out and won the BTCG by beating a top 5 Wisconsin team on a neutral field, while Alabama sat at home, that somehow wasn't enough to make up that narrow margin. Total con job.

And the B1G? Other than Sparty..... and of course us?

The conference is doing something wrong with scheduling, for sure, but the damn wins aren't there most years to make the conference look dominant.

As someone noted, NW lost to Akron and still played for the B1G championship and the Rose Bowl. C'mon..... what's that make the conference look like?

Why does a conference have to be dominant. Magically take Bama and put them in the B1G this year. They're still the same team.

This wasn't a thing before Disney signed the SEC. Miami? USC? Juggernauts independent of league strength.

OSU would've been one too in the mid-00s, but they spit the bit twice. They had an OSU problem, not a league problem.

About like Texas losing to Maryland? You know, the Maryland team that was hung around OSU's neck. Meanwhile Oklahoma struggled in every game in October but that was not held against them.

Don't herbie your way through a giant decision like playoff rankings. Be men and stand behind the reality of your decisions. Stop with the terrible rationales that fall apart after five seconds of review.

Do you really think the SEC East has been putting up a murderer's row against Alabama in the 4 of 5 years they have won it during the CFP era? I see a Mizzou (who lost to Indiana), a couple middling Floridas (one who lost to scUM), but not much that really separates that game from the B1G except for Bama. Except for NW this year the B1G CCG is usually a top-10 matchup too.

And let's not forget that Everybody's Other Darling, Clemson, has also played a bunch of garbage in their annual ACC ceremony, including unranked Pitt this year.

Well, I hear bitching that the "B1G is so much harder to play in than any other conference, that's why the wins aren't there" and the "SEC gets treated like they're better than everyone else."

Those are the same statement, really. Do you think the B1G should get more respect than the SEC? Did GA or Bama lose to somebody like Akron and still play for the SEC championship?

We can't have it both ways. We can't insist that our conference deserves respect and have a team playing for the championship that lost to a 5A High School.

I'm arguing that bitching about Bama playing a weak schedule is fine, but they don't consistently lose to one of those creampuffs....... the B1G isn't going to get respect, and yes...... get that favorable look from the committee...... when we're touting a "big win" over a NW that lost to Akron. That just makes sense.

Doesn't putting Bama in the B1G negate that SEC speed? Or does the SEC speed rub off on the rest of us? I can't keep track.
A better move would be for tOSU go the ND route and be THE wildcat in the CFP.

The B1G, as a conference, lacks the luster (fair or not, TV or not, ESECPN or not) these days to support what tOSU needs to thrive in this environment.

Yeah, it'd destroy the B1G but the conference simply isn't doing what needs to be done....... and bitch all you wish..... but that's what the SEC and ACC are doing for Bama and Clemson. They are working the system. You either win so many damn games and they can't ignore you...... or you need the conference to actually work with you.

That's reality.

Past that, most of us would like to see half, more or less, of the D coaching staff replaced...... and what other team in the top 6 is thinking like that? Do you think Bama, Clemson, ND, OU, or GA fans think that way (OU should...... but I'm betting they're looking at recruiting which is only half their problem.)

It's the damn end of the season of hell for us and STILL some want to insist how "good we were and deserve the dance." It's not true. Man up, put away the fanboy shit...... and let's look at the reality. It was a damn scary year to be a Buckeye. Be thankful. It was one bad 2pt conversion pass from us not having ANY of this to discuss.

the power in the SEC has been heavily slanted toward the west for about a decade now.

typically the 3rd (sometimes 4th) place team in the west could win the east, and maybe one team from the east could compete for the west.

I don't think anyone is really "touting" a win over NW, they did what they had to do and beat them good.

Problem is a win over NW should still count more than a "close" loss to Alabama, where said losing team completely choked in the 2nd half. Yes Ohio State lost to Purdue, but "great teams" dont choke like UGA did against Bama. There's a big problem when teams are given more respect for "close losses" than actual wins, and this has happened more than a few times with SEC teams this season. Nobody else is really afforded that luxury.

The SEC this year was Bama, UGA and a bunch of mediocre teams. Problem here is, the media props up said mediocre teams. Sorry but LSU and Florida are not anywhere near what I would call "great teams". They are ok at best and have inflated rankings in a year of a bunch of mediocre teams everywhere. After the top 6 or so (and maybe throw UCF in there) this season there is just an avalanche of mediocre-average teams. Very few teams i'd actually even consider to be in the "good-great" category this season.

The conference has respect. Teams that lose by four touchdowns to unranked teams do not. Ohio State got the favorable look from the committee in 2016.

I really don't understand the obsession some people have with making this into a conference bias media conspiracy when the far and away primary reasons Ohio State has missed the playoff for the last two seasons have been right there on a scoreboard for everyone to see. The tinfoil bullshit also totally ignores that both Michigan and Wisconsin were in playoff spots.

Florida is seriously one of the worst "top 10" teams I can remember and Washington is about right in that same boat.

You could interchange Florida/Washington with Ped State or Wazzu and there would be no difference though.

Just throw the rankings out after the top 6 this year because it really doesn't matter considering the overall quality of play from everyone outside of that this season.

No argument that the SEC is overrated and that GA should've beat Bama.

By that same argument of "eye test".... do you wanna talk about the Ped State win? The MD win? The Corn win?

Yeah, GA choked to Bama (who also happened to have Hurts and a pretty damn good offense) but did they need a miracle against an MD team to win? did they CONSISTENTLY look like crap on D (OU did.... no argument, but not GA)...... or ffs..... not be willing to go under center on 4th and short (and I'm surprised Woody didn't rise from the grave to kick Urban's ass over that.)

This simply isn't a pretty year for the Buckeyes. Everyone knows it, nobody seems to remember all of sudden how shitty this team looked in weeks 5 thru 9, even though they won all but one of those games. Why is so hard to remember all of a sudden?

You can't ask for the ranking to be any better..... again, it's damn lucky that we are 6. Lose to MD..... and we came a cunt hair from it..... and what should we be ranked? Or Ped State? Or Corn? Hell, even the IU was dismal (they are something like a "second 50" offense but they put up 300+ passing as I recall.)

Seriously...... how fucking good do you think this team looks to those who don't bleed Buckeye red?
