The Red Sox Are Coming!!!! The Red Sox Are Coming!!!

sears: "It's amazing the turn-around that happened after we shipped Nomar out of town (23-8)."

Sears, I'm about blue in the face from saying it, but pitching & defense win championships. Period. The Yankees stopped winning Titles when they went away from that.

Only a fool wouldn't think that the Red Sox wouldn't be better after the trade. The Infield Defense was so bad that they would've been a sitting duck in the Playoffs, regardless of Schilling & Martinez. Plus, Nomar was a cancer: how do you sit out the July 1st game? Unreal.

The Red Sox haven't won since 1918 because the team never had pitching, defense, and speed. They still don't have speed, but this year they have a shot because they can pitch and play D with anybody.

No doubt. Once Pokey gets back, that's 2 gold glove winners in the middle of the infield. And our pitching has been lights-out of late. I hope Scott Williamson is able to get back to help bolster our bullpen.

As far as speed is concerned, I think we're fine for our style of offense. The addition of Dave Roberts helps too.

The elementary thing to me all these years (which apparently is beyond the grasp of Red Sox management), is that you don't need a stacked offense to score runs in Fenway Park. Build the team around stud pitchers, good bullpen, steady defense, then put a slugger or two in the middle of the line-up. Its that simple.

Fenway makes Batting Champions out of scrups like Millar, Mueller, et. al. It inflates stats (Nomar), ressurects careers (Ortiz), and makes average to above average players dangerous (Nixon). There will always be offense to be had in that Park.

As far as I'm concerned, the Red Sox might (MIGHT!) have one fatal flaw that could stop them come Playoff time. I won't mention what that is, but we'll see if my theory holds true in October. I also think that if the Yanks win the A.L. East, the Sox will be hurt by the fact that they have to play a better team in the First Round, and then don't have home field if they do advance.

Expanding on the Nation's post from before, I worked out the numbers and multiplied the number of games and teams left on the schedule, and here's what I got:

The combined records of the Yankees and Red Sox remaining opponents are: 435-483 (.474), and 476-439 (.520), respectively.

But, when we take into account games played with each, the Yankees will play 31 games vs. teams with a Win Pct of .475.

The Red Sox, on the other hand, will play 32 games against teams at a total Win Pct of .507.

Advantage, Yankees.

Nation: "way to completely ignore what i said and mold the numbers in your advantage."

What are you talking about, you idiot? The numbers are numbers, dummy - all I did is add them up! But since you're too stupid to add, I guess that is "molding" the numbers.

you have to bring hate to every thread? you gotta let that stuff go man.

and im talking about what the numbers hide. sure the yankees schedule looks easier because boston plays oakland and texas. but boston FINISHES with an easier schedule.

god dont be such a douche all the time.

Dude, you have to let it go. I'm not the one writing "Derek Jeter is a pussy" on 'Seinfeld Trivia' & 'How Gullable is EdgeBuck?' threads (among others). Give it up, Nation. I've been posting here & BN for a long time, and you don't want to get into a war of words with me.

"and im talking about what the numbers hide. sure the yankees schedule looks easier because boston plays oakland and texas. but boston FINISHES with an easier schedule."

What they FINISH with is useless to the conversation today. Today is September 1st, not September 20th. After Boston's games with Anaheim, Oakland, and Texas the Playoff picture might be complete, and it might be a moot point. If you wanna make that point, then post it in three weeks. Not today.

And to expand on the schedules, the only team with a chance to catch Boston for the Wild Card is Anaheim. Texas' remaining schedule strength is 472-444 (.515). If you take the 32 games and put it into the equation, then Texas is against a .519 PCT. Way higher than Boston's.

Anaheim, on the other hand, faces a slightly easier road than Boston. They're up against a 464-453 (.506) vs. Boston @ .520. But, game by game, the Angels play 31 games against a .504 PCT vs. Boston's .507.

i think the person who cant take a little HUMOR needs to give it up. youre obviously such a yankee cock sucker that you cant tell when somebody is just joking...or when somebody is *GASP* dissing your precious boyfriends. and no i dont want to get into a war of words with you because youre a pathetic fuckup and this is the last post ill ever respond to from you. you arent worth it if you have no sense of humor. get that yankee bat out of your ass.

youre fucking kidding me right? how a team finishes the season has no bearing on who they play today? ok fuck stick.....if you say so. im sure the yankees and the redsox dont even know who they are playing in the future or have even done the same exact comparison i just did in seeing who has the easier path to the playoffs. youre dead on :roll1:

well their remaining schedule isnt a factor according to your brilliant logic :roll1:

im not even talking about texas or anaheim there stat boy. im talking about boston taking the AL east and the yankees struggling to win the wild card. boy wouldnt that be a hoot.

now go stalk somebody else....im tired of your yankee loving, hate spewing bull shit. fuck off. im done with you.

Since I'm a mod now (Thanks Nutty! :mad1: ), I guess it's my responsibilty to intervene before things get too out of hand.

Let's try and refrain from the name-calling and insults. Beacuse of our allegiances to various teams, we all have our own opinions on the multitude of topics surrounding baseball. Just because you don't agree with them is not a valid reason to treat others with disrespect.

So please, let's try and clean it up just a little and keep talking some baseball.

August 16th-

The date everything changed. Since that day, Boston has gone 14-1, cutting 7 games off the Yankee's lead (they went 7-8 over that span).

Anyone know what happened on August 16th, 1948?
