To boo or not to boo - when does it go too far?

daddyphatsacs

Let the cards fall...
I mentioned this in the other thread that I wrote about the game, but I think it deserved it's own thread also. I just want to say that I was disgusted by the fans who were booing Zwick today. The guy made some bad throws, so did Smith. The weather had a lot to do with what transpired. If anyone that posts here was one of those who were booing I just want to call you a moron. This was a scrimmage for a college game, QB's are normally rusty this time of year. I think Booing is fine in the NFL, or when the athletes are paid, but to boo Zwick during a spring game was unacceptable in my opinion, and those who did it should be ashamed.

.....OK, I think I'm done with my Brady Bunch lecturing, I just found myself getting more and more angry with the situation when it happened.

By the way, it was cold as hell out there, but well worth it.

Thats great.....the 20 or so recruits at the game got to see how much we love and support our players..:roll2: what a bunch of a**holes. I'm not a Zwick fan but I am a buckeye fan and to behave that way towards a kid playing for your team is bullsh**. This refelcts very bad on our fan base...as if we were'nt already vilified.......

Although its not really right to 'boo' the players they'd just do it during the season like they did last year. They were letting a 4th year player know that it was not acceptable thats all. Because in all honesty it really wasn't acceptable even if its practice and a spring game.

As for the recruits watching the game..... You have to know you're going to get booed at OSU if you don't perform, and that you'd get boo'd at any major college for that matter. Because if you want to make it to the next level you better know how to handle that. If anything it would help these kids deal with pressure.

Now I wouldn't of boo'ed because thats just my nature and I don't boo my teams. However, its not wrong for fans to let players know to 'get your ass in gear'.

I was at the game and I could not believe the fans reaction to Zwick's play today. For example, when Troy was announced over the speakers he was applauded. When Zwick was announced....nothing from the fans. When Zwick threw some bad passes he was immediately booed. Smith had some bad passes and nothing from the fans...

All three quarterbacks played below par.....thats the honest truth, but its a scrimmage in the spring for gods sakes. I am not a so called "Zwick Supporter", but I thought it was in bad taste. If you want to boo for bad play, their were plenty of other players making mistakes out there today.

You have got to be joking right? That comment is moronic at best.:roll2:

This was a glorified scrimmage, not the Michigan game. Booing was not necessary in my opinion.

thing is I doubt most of them were grown men.... the kids are in school remember. You have to realize that most take college football more serious than pro's.

Now while I don't agree that its necessary for us to boo its definatly something I"m not going to sit here and say "I'm embarressed about" because anywhere you go you'll have them. Like I said at the next level you better be prepared to get boo'd.

I take OSU football seriously also, but your missing the point. In my opinion, booing at the spring game because of bad passes is absolutely in bad taste. Its obvious that everyone is on the Troy Smith bandwagon because of the Michigan game and rightfully so, but I wish Zwick would get the same treatment from the fans that Troy got today.

With all the time, effort and dedication these players put into the game, I think every last one of them has earned more respect than to be treated like that... but then too, simple courtesy is sufficient to make booing despicable.

for those that think the booing today is no big deal, what do you have to say to the HUNDREDS of hate emails, voice mails, and letters that Zwick got last fall. the guy had to get a new cell phone and email because of it. and even after that he still wants to be a buckeye and play for this school because he considers it an honor to play for ohio state. so he made a bad throw, do you know how many of those the receiver screwed up?? no you dont. they're all kids out there, let's try not to forget that. i don't care what you think about a play or a person, but EVERY person on that field today is a buckeye and to call yourself a fan and still accept booing a player in a scrimage is repulsive.

Here's why Zwick should not be booed:
- He's a buckeye. Did he make some mistakes? Sure... but you're crucifying one of your own as not being worthy.
- He's still developing. He showed a lot of development from september 04 to december 04. People should not expect him to be perfect yet.... b/c...
- He's the backup, you tools --> all of those who joined in the booing (saying this in general, not for anyone specific). He obviously has confidence issues, and hypothetically if Boeckman isn't ready to go (which I think he is) in the fall... if Smith goes down with an injury this is our QB.
- Did you boo everyone else? Why not boo Dukes for dropping a pass and fumbling a ball? B/c he's learning right?
- You have no right to talk when you surely suck a lot more. You could count on one hand the amount of booers capable of starting ahead of Zwick on a rainy day with 1/2 a team. They're crucifying him for something they'd be even worse at doing.

Booing is not cool. Lets not go overboard. Zwick steps up, it shuts up the booers. He's dealt the hand he was given. It was pretty good early in his career, now adversity hits...what is he going to do ...fight or flight.
