Game Thread tOSU at Cal Bears, Sep 14, 7 ET, Fox

We have got to attack Goff and rattle him early. He throws a great deep ball but also throws picks when pressured. Get to him early and get to him fast. Just hope we dont play far off the receivers as we will see a healthy dose of dink and dunk ball from them and that could get a guy like Goff in a groove. I still think we roll.

We already have a marquee game scheduled for each season up through 2023...
My point is that there are real marquee games that can be played and still fit the recruiting purpose. This was supposed to have been a "marquee" series.

If you step back and look at the "marquee" series from 2005 to 2023; one of those things is not like the others, and it wasn't that hard to see it would turn out that way

On the injury front for Cal:
OUT: LB Michael Barton (knee), DT Mustafa Jalil (knee), DE Brennan Scarlett (hand), SS Avery Sebastian (Achilles)
QUESTIONABLE: LB Nick Forbes (back), FS Michael Lowe (ankle), DE Chris McCain (head), LB Lucas King (head)
PROBABLE: SS Damariay Drew (head), WR Chris Harper (shoulder), WR Kenny Lawler (head), WR Darius Powe (ankle)

They're losing a lot of guys.

I'm not much of a tactician on formations, etc but I thought I would take a stab this week. I expect a lot of dime formation with 4 on the DL, Shazier the lone LB roaming the middle of the field and 6 in the backfield: Bryant, Barnett, Roby, Grant, Reeves (these 5 seem obvious) and the 6th maybe Apple? Or I would expect some type formation with the 6th man in the "backfield" being whichever of Powel or Bell has better cover skills. Again....I am admittedly a hack at this......so chime in. We certainly have great personnel for this type of arrangement and seems the best to counter an all out air raid. If you play one lone LB in the middle they better be FAST and we have that in Shazier. I like too that we still have 4 on the D Line to bring pressure. I really expect this to be our base formation on Saturday.

They need the game to be a high scoring shootout to have a chance. And get turnovers. But, I'm sure it will be a fun game to watch!

I anticipate lots of points put up by both teams. Goff is a solid frosh QB. I think he played a very similar offense in HS. He's good on fakes. I think the bucks will find their defense gets much tougher on the run inside the red zone. Northwestern had to pass more than they wanted to because of the play of DL and LBs and their (NW) QB was constantly under pressure. This team is quick on both sides of the ball and they have more than one player who can score from almost anywhere on the field.

Winning by 14 will be a good outing.
