I'd like the trophy more if the winner collected it directly following the game. Kinda like every other trophy game. I also may have known about it before 2004.This game is 12 days away, and already I'm dreading hearing the Illibuck trophy BS again. Stupidest trophy, and stupidest story in the history of college football.

What year, exactly, did it start? Because if it was prior to 1935, I'm guessing it was an attempt to make a rivalry. If my theory is correct, it's a perfect example of why rivalries shouldn't be declared, but should happen organically. *coughPSUNOTARIVALcough*
I said this previously in iteration number I-don't-know-what of this argument, but the Illibuck Trophy was started in 1925. Ohio State played Illinois in the last game of the season from 1919-1930 ('31 was Minnesota for some reason) and in 1932-1933.
Ohio State's record in those 15 games was 7-8.
It was a rivalry then because it was competitive and it was the last game of the season.
Ohio State started playing Michigan the last game of the season in 1935.
Since 1935:
Ohio State vs. Michigan - 38-36-4
Ohio State vs. Illinois - 56-18-2
So, yeah. Some people actually still defend the Illibuck as a "rivalry" interestingly enough.
ESPN/ABC confirms next weekend's game times: Ohio State at Illinois will be a noon kick EST (11 a.m. CST) with ESPN televising.
