tOSU at Minnesota, Thurs. Sep 2nd, 8 ET on Fox

Man I don’t know what it is but I’m honestly not hyped about this season like I usually am. Feels like the last 3 out of 4 seasons have been slogs to follow, and 2019 ended in such a fashion that it nearly turned me off to the sport for good.
By this time of year I’d be rocking back and forth like a crack fiend counting down the days until kick off, scouring for every piece of Buckeye news I could. Now I’m questioning whether I even want to stay up for the opener.

We endured that AND STILL GOT TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! If your joy is sapped after pre-season drama, but we still won the conference, got to the CFP and then then the NC, then go root for Purdue or Nebraska. I don't know how fans can become so ungrateful when they root for schools with immense success. There are only 4-5 teams tops in all of CFP that have a chance at an NC every year now, and we still have fans complaining, good god:roll1:.

I hear ya. Just saying that could be a driving factor. Strange times.

It's also the world we live in. People think if you're not first what's the point, and social media and Bama's run drive that insane talking point.

I'm still pumped. It's like Christmas morning every gameday. Gotta enjoy the present and not worry about perfection.

Let's just win this first one, getting our quarterback some successfull experience, our d-backs with their heads on straight and our running backs hitting the holes hard.
Enjoy. It will be a long, smooth ride in that '57 T-bird.

A lady and her husband brought cars to our parish's car show three years ago and parked them right next to each other. He drove a Bentley and she drove this. They won all of the iron.

I'm in a somewhat similar boat as Sys. But I do believe it's because of the compound effects from how 2019 ended and how 2020 carried on along with The Game being cancelled.

I look back on times like 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012 and how the last couple of months before those seasons seemingly just dragged because the fever and expectations were so intense. We couldn't wait to start the season.

It never fails though, waking up day of and turning on Game Day - always puts me right back into the spirit of things. Perhaps we just aren't yet in the mindset to process the gravity of such an event? Game 1 is fast approaching and I'm positive that reality will hit us soon.

At first I merely felt sorry for you. Then I wondered why so many of the responses were hostile. You're simply stating a preference about something that is purely subjective; people like and dislike football, college and pro, to varying degrees. Whatever.

But then I remembered that you made this statement on Buckeye Planet. This is a place for people to feed their unhealthy obsession with Ohio State Football.

If you were to go to a knitting message board and tell them that you used to like to knit, but you don't anymore; you'd probably get some grandmotherly advice to go fuck yourself.

If you said that here, we might wonder why you ever liked to knit in the first place, but otherwise we'd leave you alone about your preference.

So... as for sharing the loss of your unhealthy obsession for all things Buckeye, perhaps it would be best if you shared that somewhere else. Might I suggest ... LINK

Yeah, I just can't understand not being excited about this team. Another story line I failed to mention: the amount of returning starters who could've left for the NFL(i.e. Munford, Ruckert, Olave, Garrett, Smith, Banks). How could any OSU not be excited for them? Or for Ryan Day getting his 1st NC, wouldn't that put OSU in a rare class of teams with 5 different coaches? I just can't for the life of not be excited for this team, especially since we are 1 of 5 teams with a realistic shot! I can see if you root for Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Missouri, Arizona, etc, etc, but OSU was literally just in the NC about 8mos ago! Not the Beef O Bradys or Circuit City Bowls, but the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

Anyways, I for one can't wait for the start of this season. Game 1 is a start of something great this year, IMO. I hope some of ya'll are excited for this season when the Ws pile up

Expectations are apart of it but I don’t have mega high expectations for this team due to the new faces. Wouldn’t be a surprise if they drop either Minny or Oregon.

I will admit though that last season was a slog through absolutely no fault of the team. It was the first time in 20 years of watching the sport I was glad it was all over. Getting annihilated sucked but it nothing compared to kicking Dabo’s teeth in. Was worth the price of five Bama beatings and it was a miracle that team got as far as it did.

But like I said, maybe the excitement is coming later than expected.
