tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I read on 11w that he "grew up in a town of 5,000 and Columbus wasn't his type of place." He's from WV.

It seems like there's more to it though, IMO.

But if we end up with a class of Booker, Garrett, & McMillan no one will even remember him.
aHe is from St. Clairsville which is about as close to WV without crossing the Ohio River:wink: small town Saturday night these days.
However, you are correct about the college atmosphere town where he wants to go to school. I don't quite understand because most universities are separate from the cities where they are located.

He had stated that he just moved to the Ohio side

St. C is about 10-15 minutes from the WV border. I don't think there is a WV side of St. C. Either way, as someone said... no one is going to remember him if we land Booker, Garrett, and Raekwon

I didn't mean the WV side of St. C, I meant he just recently moved to the Ohio side of the border.

'What if' the Big 3 2014 LBs picked OSU
July, 31, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

The Cleveland Indians marketing department made a great move with the ?what if? campaign in their commercials. It?s a nostalgic look at the past with hints of the future.

Ohio State?s future could bring a trio of linebackers from the 2014 class in Clifton Garrett (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South), Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty) and Dante Booker (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary).

All have Ohio State offers and all made their way to Columbus last week for the Friday Night Lights camp.

anyone else noticing that almost every visitor from the 2013/2014 class has named scum their leader after visiting there but only a handful have done the same with OSU after leaving Columbus? Am I reading too much into that?

Michigan - coming off of a great season with some new BCS hardware to show off.

OSU - coming off a terrible season, and a coach (albeit Urban effing Meyer) who hasn't hit the sidelines yet to show off his stuff here.

Just be patient until the on field product starts to deliver, would be my advice.

How do you define "almost every" visitor? I've seen Mason Cole and Michael Ferns - the latter of which isn't even considering Ohio State.

And, even though we don't like the school, most of what I have heard about him relating to recruits is positive. Several recruits mention him or the coaching staff as a positive or highlight of their trip. I know that's not what every kid is saying but several are.

My take is this. They are getting several good recruits and we are getting great ones. The rivalry will be strong again but I still feel like we will be on the winning side more often than not.

And the codicil is that we 'more seasoned' fans are used to seeing most of the best Ahia kids stay with OSU, not go North. There was a time with Bo and Earl that the best DID go North, and it always rankled.

Even though the Buckeyes might get better players OOS, I'd still rather have us take a 4* Ahian, versus a 5* OOS. The difference is that the Ahian wants to be here, and has a passion, but the OOS wants a meal ticket to the pros....(reference - the Coop years, all 2-10-1 of 'em).

If we get a 'talent-drain' to that School(s) up North, the next generation will grow up thinking North, rather than tOSU....just sayin'

I have noticed that many recruits, especially those from out of the area are visiting us and them go up north. It's like they just head up there while they are in the area.
