URBAN MEYER, LARRY JOHNSON SR. MAKE RECRUITING PIT STOP AT MARYLAND HIGH SCHOOL POWERHOUSE

Still reveling in Ohio State's first title since 2002, Ohio State fans? Urban Meyer and his staff aren't.

Urban, like any college coach worth his weight in College Football Playoff trophies, knows recruiting is a 24/7/365 affair. And even with 2015's Signing Day happening in about two weeks, Urban and his staff already have their eyes on 2016 talent as well.

Larry Johnson Sr., Ohio State's defensive line coach, is renowned for his east coast recruiting connections, so it's no surprise Urban Meyer tapped the former Nittany Lion to accompany him to DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. Here they are with DeMatha's head coach, Elijah Brooks.

.
As for players Ohio State could still sign, Andrew Holleran of CollegeSpun.com noted DeMatha's 2016 squad has six prospects carrying three or more stars by Rivals.

Posted this on 11w... thought I might as well stop being such a lurker...

I guess I'll take a shot at this... 15 Seniors then I have Elliot, Thomas, Jones, Bell, and Bosa going early (they've won a title, maybe too... and will all be higher draft picks next year). That puts us at probably somewhere around 20 leaving. I always add 5 for natural attrition, so that puts a safe bet of 25 to bring in.

NEEDS: QB (1), RB (2), WR (2), TE (2), DT (2), LB (1)... these are relative, there will be changes considering young player development. Especially at LBer, OL, DE, and S

* indicate committed players

QB (1) - Guaratano (sooner rather than later... especially if Gibson flips to Auburn)

RB (2) - Walker*, Hill* (and we're technically done here... will be a BATTLE to keep Walker)

HB/Pivot (2)- McCall, Larkin (Bama scares me a bit here for McCall... Larkin is a sleeper who TORE UP the GCL, will be a camp offer and instant commit)

OL (6) - Gerald*, Menet, Jordan, Williams, Eichenberg, Cupp (We are NOT flipping Kraemer, that ship has sailed. Instead, we work PA for their two best, imo and take another from MD... along with landing the other 5* in our backyard... Cupp is a camp offer if there is not already 4 or more committed... otherwise that schollie is saved for our late Urban special)

TE (3) - Hawkins*, Hausmann*, Farrell (two studs in our laps, we get them both. Both could play the second they walk on campus... we will be that thin at TE... Hawkins is TECHNICALLY a TE, but is more of an HB/WR... whatever)

WR (3) - Mack, Layne, Butler (Layne and Mack should be in before the end of the summer... Butler v Flowers for the last spot in camp)

DT (2) - Onwenu, Gary (I am at my most homer here. This depends on two things. First, we keep Weber and Alabi. Second, we land Guaratano and Walker... this is my dream DT and would more than make up for our depth issues INSTANTLY)

DE (3) - Cooper*, Bosa, Sammons, Robertson (I see DE done by the end of summer with all three non-commits in, starting with Robertson. His commit will force Sammons' hand... we will wait for Bosa til the ends of the earth, but the kid knows where he wants to go)

LB (2) - Ferns, Sandwisch (I think Coughlin stays home and Borland goes to Wisc as a legacy... Sandwisch wins both best name and an offer at camp, instant commit... Ferns is a when not if)

DB (4) - Speaight, Mayden, Hill, Warrior (this is the toughest imo... there will be lots of camp offers... I think we "flip" Speaight from Akron and Hill from PSU... Mayden is a reach, but I'm a bit in the dark here... So I gave my last spot to Nigel Warrior because I love his name and we got in on him really early)

That's a Top 5 class. If we can somehow flip Kraemer and Bruce or Craig, that would be incredible.

Love reading the projected class lists each year so far out and then seeing how far the board shifts and changes during the course of the season.

2015 has to be one of the more extreme cases of a large group of prospects we felt really strongly could become Buckeyes(Wimbush, Jenkins, Richmond, Settle, Harris, Sweat, etc) who shifted away from us. Was their reported excitement about Ohio State overstated or did we not hard play them early enough?

2016 seems t be different. 6 kids on board already. A very strong Ohio class. Many personal relationships. A bunch of other kids considered as close to a lock as possible(Bosa, Layne, McCall, Eichenberg, Robertson, Mack, Guarantano) plus several other kids we feel very in good shape with(Farrell, Ferns, Sammons, Gary, Larkin).

It will be interesting to see if the board moves and shifts as much as it did for the 2015 class or if this next class is just dialed in and lined up close to 80% completion already.

The Sweet 16 class will be nothing like last years recruiting. The slow start hurt Osu's momentum and didn't allow it to have many recruits building relationships with other recruits. The national championship happened too late in the game as it's a lot harder to pluck kids late in the process. Gustin's USC bond was already too strong. This year class is primed to make a clean sweep of ohio and New Jersey early in the process and have tons of early momentum. The NC will do a lot more work in this years class than it did in last years.

My early projection:

QB: Jared Guarantano (near lock, should be in soon)
RB: Kareem Walker (might have a fight to keep him though)
RB: George Hill (could be a pivot, depends on McCall I think)
Pivot: McCall (too electric to use at DB, matter of when and not if)
WR: Austin Mack (in extremely good shape here)
WR: Justin Layne (when, not if)
WR: Nate Craig (we're going to keep coming and he is wide open...but if not him, a big name like Victor from down south)
TE: Jake Hausmann (huge pickup)
TE: Luke Farrell (when, not if)
TE/H: Kierre Hawkins (great athlete)
OL: Tyler Gerald (very excited about him as a future guard)
OL: Liam Eichenberg (not a lock by any means but I like our odds a little more than ND right now)
OL: Jauan Williams (really like our odds but it will be a fight nationally)
OL: Michael Jordan (very high on us...I think the number is definitely 4 or lower since we have 6 in '15 with Prince)
DE: Nick Bosa (when, not if)
DE: Jonathan Cooper (done deal)
DE: Auston Robertson (near lock, I think he is in this class by the end of the spring)
DT: Rashan Gary (will be an absolute battle but we have a ton in our favor...immediate PT, two of his best Jersey friends likely in, and a great relationship with our entire staff, particularly LJ Sr)
DT: Prince Sammons (heavily in our favor and I suspect this will not take long)
DT: Michael Onwenu (may be a matter of when, not if...I was not impressed with his film but he is highly rated and the staff seems to like him)
LB: Brendan Ferns (when, not if and on a top 100 guy)
LB: Sandwisch (I personally like him the best in Ohio beyond Ferns...but this is a shot in the dark...I don't think we get Borland or Coughlin but we are right in it...expecting more offers to go out here as well)
DB: Jarred Mayden (need a top-notch safety in this class and he is VERY high on us...won't be easy but I like where we are at)
DB: Levonta Taylor (maybe wishful thinking but we are in the mix heavily here)
DB: Patrice Renee (another guess but he does like us a lot)
DB: Tyreace Speight (really like his game, think he gets an offer this summer)

- Incredible class on paper and only a few of those guys may be stretches.

Early on with the 2014 class, many thought that half of the class was going to be from Georgia.
