tOSU Recruiting Discussion

While on the subject of QBs, what is latest news on Ryan Montgomery? His brother is a frosh, and he's attended camps at tOSU forever. Has Day & Co kept in contact, or gone on to other QBs for 2025? And will all the hoopla about the newest 'savior' scare him away? PS, move if there's a more appropriate forum for this puppy.

I think he's doing his due diligence and so is OSU. IMO, OSU fans(me included) got whipped into a frenzy after getting Luke, and seeing how talented early on Ryan was, it was assumed that Ryan was an easy lock and would be a Buckeye early. Only to find out that the staff(and Ryan) wants to see what else is out there. And getting a better look at St. Clair from Bellefontaine has to be on Day's radar, as well as getting #1 QB in 2025 Bryce Underwood on campus and getting that relationship going. A kid from TSUN, who is already the top QB in the class would be an AMAZING signing, and would make losing Marshall to scUM sting SO much less.

I think in the end, Day just wants to bring in the best QB possible, and not put all of his eggs in the Montgomery basket, and it seems like that message was conveyed to Ryan by the visits he's taking. The last thing Day wants is for St. Clair to blow up and end up at another big time school, or even worse scUM. He's a raw athlete, but he brings the type of athleticism at the QB position that had people loving Brown more than McCord. But he's not nearly as polished, and I'm sure Day will want to see more. But he will be a name to keep watching for, because if he can fine tune his game more each season and off season, you will see an OSU offer, and I could see him in the class over Montgomery. But Underwood would be the crown jewel, and someone you recruit to the end.

Thanks Pnut, that clears away the fog. Some of that stuff I thought might be, but you connected the dots for me perfectly. Hadn't seen any 'reports' on him lately, so wondered if he'd been dropped, or vice versa. Hope he attends many tOSU clinics, and gets some one-on-one work with Day & Co.

SAVION HITER ENJOYS OSU VISIT ON SATURDAY

“I was impressed how many fans showed up to the spring game,” Hiter told Eleven Warriors. “Ohio State has some die-hard fans. I talked to coach Tony Alford who told me to make sure I do my research about him as a coach and the college before deciding if it’s the right place for me in the future. He also told me about his dedication to his players as a coach and mentor and that he expects the same dedication from his players.”

Prospects in the 2026 class have yet to receive rankings from 247Sports, but it’s a safe bet Hiter will be considered among the best in the class. The 5-foot-11, 182-pound running back currently boasts 11 Division I offers, including from Georgia, Maryland, Oregon, Penn State, Syracuse, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

So for those in the know, was it a first in situation for Tatum or Lyle? Or was one preferred over the other by staff?
FWIW, Birm said he's been told that they had Lyle higher on the board than Tatum. He also said he thinks the staff has learned some lessons after missing some guys and if a guy you have near the top of the board wants to commit, you take the commitment. He also said that Peoples and SWD were the guys recruiting him hard to go ahead and commit.
