Much more realistic than last month's list.

Buckeyes have a shot a Bijan Robinson but need to hit a home run on his upcoming visit.

Buckeyes will be in it till the end for Fleming and might be able to steal him from Clemson (presumed leader, not Penn State).

Carmody's a big Penn State lean at this point, but not a done deal yet. Would love to have him, but with four in the fold and one huge lean (Atteberry) he wouldn't be a huge loss. If he does end up at Penn State, then we still need to find a sixth offensive lineman somewhere (and we've already taken our allotment of OL projects/suspects for this class).

I have Rosemy, Atteberry, Williams, Gray, Ransom, and Martinez as Buckeye leans right now; and Trayanum, Drennan, Henry, Thomas, and Cavazos as near locks, with Lachey and Edwards entering that category if/when offered.

Quite frankly, I don't know much about Redman, Craig, and Lewis at this point. All three are in the reach/sleeper/project category right now, so I don't know how hard Ohio State will push for any of them. Rylie Mills is making an official visit in April and could bump Lewis or Craig from one of those DE slots.

The big unknown in this list is Clark Phillips III. The Buckeyes need a lockdown corner in this class, and they have already/will soon strike out on Elias Ricks (LSU commit), Kelee Ringo (Texas lean), Fred Davis II (Clemson lean), and Dwight McGlothern (Texas A+M lean).

This would be a good-not-great class, and certainly not the "best class ever" that we were hoping for a few months ago when we seemingly led for a dozen 5-star guys.

IMO that would still be a great class, and pretty comparable with where we’ve been.

3 five star
11 top 100
15 top 300

For comparison sake, these were Urban’s last five classes:

2019
2 five star
4 top 100
9 top 300

2018:
3 five star
13 top 100
20 top 300

2017:
5 five star
11 top 100
18 top 300

2016:
1 five star
7 top 100
14 top 300

2015:
1 five star
6 top 100
13 top 300

That would be a good but not great class? Are you sure you took a good look at the three most important position groups this cycle being wide receiver, secondary, and O Line. If his predictions were correct I’d call that an unreal class in total and especially the 3 most important position groups.

yeah, I agree. A class that resembles anything close to that would certainly be a top 5 class. It sure would be a step down from the initial, early '20 projections but that happens every year with our largely overly-optimistic view that they are going to land like eight 5* recruits in one class.

It depends on the metric. Comparing it to what it could have been, it's only good, if LJB's current leans / possibilities do not diverge too much (obviously unlikely, but we can't discuss unknown future shifts).

Looking at it by itself, particularly after losing one of (if not the best) recruiters in CFB (Urban), it's a really strong class for a brand new coach and keeps the talent flowing nicely (and in some really key spots that are dangerously thin).

Who's sleeping on Crowley? I already think he's the 2nd best true RB on the team. But OSU has split carries for the last however many years for a reason.

I'm not sleeping on Crowley, I think he's already the 2nd best true RB on the team. The future depth is lacking.
Dude...stop sleeping on Crowley!

Some of my feelings about this hypothetical class are colored by my belief that Ohio State is not going to sign any of the following: Julian Fleming, Bijan Robinson, Clark Phillips III, and Michael Carmody. There go four of the highest-ranked members of the class, and three of them play those positions of need that you mentioned.

Even if Ohio State somehow managed to sign the entire 28-man class posted by HotMic, that class would still not qualify as "great" in my book. The overall class score - using current 247 Composite rankings - would be 311.31. That is a great score, but it is largely due to the size of the class. The average per recruit would be 92.49, which is significantly lower than Ohio State's classes of 2017 (94.59) and 2018 (94.29), and also lower than the projected classes for Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia.

This hypothetical class is also heavy on sleepers and projects (James, Leroux, Lachey, Edwards, Redman, Craig, Lewis, Williams) and players without positions (Thomas, Edwards, Trayanum, Williams, Cavazos, Martinez). You always need to take fliers on a few kids, but this class has a dozen of them.

Let's look at the class this way....

First, eliminate the kids least likely to sign with Ohio State (Fleming, Robinson, Phillips, Carmody).

Second, eliminate the borderline prospects with no serious connection to Ohio State and who have not named Ohio State a leader (Redman, Craig, Lewis, Banks).

Third, add in Miyan Williams (Cincinnati Winton Woods) and Jutahn McClain (Fairfield), who IMO are likely to end up in this class.

Fourth, arrange the recruits by the positions that you know they will play in college.

Now we are at 22 recruits, arranged as follows:

QB: Jack Miller (.9646)
RB: Miyan Williams (.8628)
HB: Michael Drennen II (.9307)
WR: Marcus Rosemy (.9818)
WR: Gee Scott, Jr. (.9639)
WR: Jaxon Smith-Njigba (.9402)
TE: Luke Lachey (.8577)
OT: Paris Johnson, Jr. (.9980)
OT: Trey Leroux (.8366)
OT: Reese Atteberry (.8944)
INT: Luke Wypler (.9729)
INT: Jakob James (.8516)
DE: Darrion Henry (.9777)
_S: Lathan Ransom (.9621)
CB: Henry Gray (.9607)

UNK: Jaheim Thomas (.9085) (DE or LB)
UNK: Lejond Cavazos (.9057) (CB or safety)
UNK: DeaMonte Trayanum (.8955) (RB or LB)
UNK: Jutahn McClain (.8889) (RB, HB, WR, DB)
UNK: Kourt Williams II (.8886) (Safety or LB)
UNK: Cameron Martinez (.8839) (HB, WR, DB)
UNK: Terah Edwards (.8466) (INT or DT)

My hypothetical class has an overall score of 286.37, with an average per recruit of 91.70, with room to add up to three players late in the process (another OL, another DL, and maybe a 5-star kid like Julian Fleming).
