2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

2025 can see a DL class of up to 7 total DL with so much attrition after the 2024 season. Mathis is a GREAT start, so there's 1. But Birm had a great article pointing out the amount of midwest talent(OH-3, IN- 2 IL- 1 KY-1). OSU has only offered 2 from his list, but he thinks that LJsr needs to pursue these guys seriously and quickly before teams like scUM, UK, etc come in and make these guys priorities. Keep it simple and get guys who are in the region and also have talent. The last few years, LJsr has tried to go after the big national fish, with quite varied results, and guys within the tri-state or in a 5hr radius go elsewhere because OSU never expressed much interest.
For example, I'm sure all of us would've loved to have Grant in S&G as opposed to watching him win an NC with scUM.

If it’s true that we’re adding the person to the staff that’s replacing LJ this year, I would think that they will heavily step into the recruiting scene. I’m also hoping that they and Knowles will be more aligned with the type of player that they want to bring in.

Hopefully the pursuit of more regional talent will be part of that change over.

Lots of recent movement and portal transfers, so it is time to update RB07OSU's slightly less than too early prediction for this class:

QB: Tavien St. Clair (QB is a wrap for '25)
RB: Marquise Davis (kitchen sink it to get this one done early, but I think the kid is a Buckeye through and through)
RB: Lamar "Bo" Jackson (trending well and he would be a great compliment to Davis, I could see both splitting carries...could use a third RB but I'm thinking portal for that one)
WR: Jayvan Boggs (done deal and a top WR in '25)
WR: Jaime Ffrench (actually think we are trending here after Saban retired)
WR: Naeshaun Montgomery (an all Florida WR class? why not...lots of other names here but this is my best guess right now)
TE: Nate Roberts (seems like when and not if, I wouldn't have any other TE ranked above him tbh....future stud)
TE: Luka Gilbert (another when and not if, could grow into an OT)
OL: Carter Lowe (absolute priority but I think we get good news by the end of the spring)
OL: Avery Gach (excellent OT prospect and I honestly would be surprised if he doesn't pick the good guys)
OL: No idea really, there are some offer but we need 2-3 more in '25
DE: Zahir Mathis (such a great get at a position of need, great start on the DL class)
DE: Justin Hill (I think he turns into an edge rusher in the Jack role, but put him at DE)
DE: Ari Watford (not super high confidence but hopefully we can get him or Merritt...we need 3 quality DEs in this class)
DT: Brandon Caesar (think he ends up at DT, if he is a priority then we land him)
DT: Jarquez Carter (we seem to be in the lead here, but we need more DT targets...not really seeing much and we need to restock after only landing Mensah in '24 at DT)
LB: Eli Lee (stud and no worries about a decommit)
LB: Elijah Melendez (we seem to be the clear leader here, should see him in this class)
LB: Madden Faraimo (maybe a pipe dream, but he had us in the lead and we need a third LB in this class imo...if not him, I would think we go for a third unless we get a portal LB)
CB: Devin Sanchez (best CB in the country and possibly #1 overall...nuff said)
CB: Blake Woodby (probably the best slot CB in the nation, perfect fit into this class)

CB/S: Dorian Brew (t-minus 10 days from an announcement to the good guys...elite player regardless of position and will help form maybe the best DB class we have ever seen)
S: Trey McNutt (so fortunate to have Brew and McNutt from Ohio that are pretty much guaranteed Buckeyes...McNutt is a top 5 safety in the nation without a doubt and might end up being the #1 safety this time next year)
S: Faheem Delane (actually pretty confident we win this one...probably the #1 safety in America and would be a huge addition)

- Note that there are plenty more names that I could see in this class...Montgomery at QB is possible, Louis and Davison at RB I think we will continue to pursue, WR will continue to evolve, no idea what the plan is at OL outside Lowe/Gach, DE has a lot of candidates, DT needs to have some more names emerge imo, and LB outside of Lee is somewhat of a wildcard. Will be interesting to see how the next few months pan out.

Not sure Tim Walton is pulling his weight. Many questions.... ;

love it... feels light on the DL.... I'm guessin you're assuming we add a few through the portal? Birm was talking they need 7 on the DL in 25...

HEAT CHECK: FIVE-STAR OFFENSIVE TACKLE DAVID SANDERS JR. DEBUTS AS OHIO STATE’S NO. 1 TARGET WITH OFFENSIVE LINE BEING A TOP FOCUS IN 2025 CLASS

It’s time for the inaugural edition of the Heat Check for the 2025 class.

The January version of Eleven Warriors’ recurring monthly recruiting editorial is always the most challenging to pen, with so many good options available being so early in the cycle.

Ohio State has dominated on the recruiting front early in the 2025 class, landing six commitments so far, including five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez, four-star defensive end Zahir Mathis, four-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair, four-star cornerback Blake Woodby, four-star wide receiver Jayvan Boggs and three-star linebacker Eli Lee.

In our first edition of the new year, we’ve come up with six offensive players and six defensive players to top Ohio State’s recruiting board.

As always, rankings are based on many factors, including roster needs for the Buckeyes in future seasons, the caliber of the player and how likely that player is to come to Columbus on National Signing Day.

As you can see from last year’s January edition of the Heat Check, it’s not an exact science and things get fluid fast, as only two targets from the first edition of the last recruiting cycle signed with Ohio State (though it would have been three if Justin Scott stayed committed). But we’ll try and one-up that (at least) this go-around.

The greatest roster needs for the 2025 class are offensive tackles, an elite safety prospect and defensive line, so all three are well-represented in the first ranking.

Great list RB! I think the DL class(and the class in general ) will start to get a better look at the guys the staff is seriously in on when summer comes around. When the camp circuit kicks off we’ll see some names emerge
