tOSU vs Missouri, Goodyear Cotton Bowl, Friday Dec. 29, 8 ET on ESPN

Paul Keels came to my place today. (His younger brother comes in once or twice a week.) He said Devin will start, but Lincoln will play. Fwiw, he also said that McCord would be the starter long before it was officially announced.
I Day turning into "My Guy" all of a sudden?? He seems to be doing what is necessary to maximize the team for next year.

Nope. It's a meaningless game. Can't wait until next year when every good team will be in a real playoff.

"Let me know when you're playing for a championship, then I'll deem you worthy of my time (and pound my chest like a diehard)."

Your goofy avatar makes more sense to me now. It's a perfect match for that entitlement attitude. :roll1:

You have to be young, because pretty much every season used to end with a "meaningless" bowl game. Somehow, we watched.

To add to Jake, I believe a fan supports a team even when it is down, which Ohio State is very much not. A fan watches a team to see a player have an extraordinary play, as well as a team win a game or championship. Not saying that you should hold the same beliefs, but I think that the root derivative of the word (i.e., fanatic) would suggest such.

Assuming it’s true, that confirms to me they’re bringing a transfer portal QB in. I don’t think you’d commit to Devin Brown outright the majority of snaps in bowl game, but give Kineholz a smaller opportunity as well.

Again, jmo, but I’m expecting a fairly large name to be brought in at QB, and then there being an open competition to start for the 2024 season.

Agree but I've been operating under that assumption as soon as McCord declared. Day has never waivered from his 4 QB's to make a room stance.

Only question is the new guy a depth option or a legit starter type? I think Day understands he has to win and can't be waiting on a bunch of unproven guys and a true freshman in 2024. I'd wager he goes after a guy he feels he can win with in '24 and will let the other chips fall where they may.

Yes but now we know it’s ending. Which is what I said. Starting next year we are in the real world of sports where every good team will end the year with a loss except for one.

Non playoff bowls will be like the NIT. Do I ever watch the Buckeyes in the NIT? Never

Hell I watched 2006 Florida, and 2017 Clemson all the way through. I didn't watch any of the post game cause fuck that noise. But you watch all the way through good or bad and stay the whole game when you go good or bad.

Worst I remember in person was 2015 Michigan St. Maybe not suckiest game that was probably Oklahoma in our house but the disappointment plus being so soaked with a cold rain it took hours to dry.

All you are doing is reinforcing everyone else who has criticized your opinion and making theirs more valid. Yes, it's your opinion and you are entitled to it, but your attempts at defending it are sinking faster than the Titanic. If it were me, I would quit while I was behind.

I think you try to bring in the best you can after the McCord transfer, but with the clear message it is a truly open competition. Doing so probably disqualifies you from a lot of the top guys, but I am of the opinion that the staff was seeing something in Brown and/or LK that made them think that one of those would be better than McCord next year for our team, where we know there is almost no live experience for a QB to show what they can do. This year, Kyle was the safer guy and had MH Jr/Egbuka/X/Fleming to throw to. Next year, we are going to need someone more dynamic with the ability to create plays...I think either of Brown or LK can be that guy, but I say bring in the best you can from the portal to get the best competition you can.

Either way, I would like to see the snaps go roughly 50/50 because this is a rare opportunity to have a live QB competition against a quality opponent in a bowl game in addition to the spring game and fall camp. We can do that while starting Brown, just switch them every 2 drives or something for most of the game and if we are in the picture to win, then go with the hot hand at the end. Only real upside to Kyle leaving this early.

I hate doing stuff like that when you have a chance to win the conference/national title, but in a non-playoff bowl game I say full green light to help the staff make a more informed decision for the '24 season. If we win or lose, fans will remember it about the same as if when we beat Okie State in the Alamo Bowl in 2004 or when we lost to Clemson in the Orange Bowl in 2013. Good to win and hate to lose, but the stakes are carrots compared to preparation for next year. If we get some real position competitions going in bowl practices and some good film from the game, that will help immensely for 2024.
