Toughest place to play?

I still think it's funny that people don't recall how loud it was for the scUM game in 2002. Towards the end we got nervous, so maybe it wasn't AS LOUD then...but the LOUDEST moment in that stadium is when the referee signaled Ohio State ball after Darion Scott caused John Navarre to fumble with 2 minutes left. The place went nuts. It was louder than any moment during the Penn State game. The atmosphere for the Penn State game was tougher, because the crowd wasn't worried...we were the defense there, because PSU kept getting backed up, and we willed the defense to stop them.

I get pretty tired of this excuse. I'm sure the design of the stadium doesn't help but it's far from the main problem. It's quiet b/c their fans are not nearly vocal enough. The entire place was basically silent for the first half in 2001.

Believe me, their fans were yelling pretty loud but the sound just leaves the place.

You ever been to a game there?

What I noticed is how much louder it sounds on TV than in person.

I think it's pretty loud there...but it just doesn't reach the same level as Ohio Stadium. I've only been there twice. 1991 and 2003. Both times I thought to myself that the excitement in the crowd was there, but there just wasn't that deafening sound on 3rd down that you get in The Shoe. Penn State, Wisconsin, and even Purdue get deafening during big games at their moments. Indiana is pretty loud too, but that's just when OSU is there, cuz the stadium is full of Buckeyes.

Never been there...but it's probably pretty tough just because it's Notre Dame...mental factor. A lot of teams probably get affected by that. I'd love to see a Michigan/Notre Dame game there...just so I could go, and root for ND.

Didn't know for sure if you meant you were there or saw it on TV.

I know, I just felt like being rude. Anyway, after that game I have trouble blaming the stadium design for the problem. Having attended a PSU game vs MSU, there simply is no comparison. Their stadium helps, but I think the fanaticism at PSU (and OSU) translates directly into crazier fans. Michigan fans tend to be a lot more nominal on average in my experience (having lived in PA, MI, and recently OH).

I don't discredit your claim that scUM's fans are a little more of the wine and cheese type crowd.

Wisconsin gets my vote. Their fans are absolutely brutal. They stand and shout the entire damned game and make you feel completely unwelcome. Iowa is pretty underrated as a hostile stadium. Their fans are completely nuts. Outside of the Big 10, I'd say Neyland and the Swamp are the nastiest.

As for the Pig House, Shoe' comparison, there is none. The only thing scUM has is sheer size.

The noise level isnt even close.

I have been to both.

I have never attended a game in the SEC, but UT, UF always seem to be very loud on tv.

Also have to put happy Valley in there.

Kyle Field, used to be louder, and used to be more hostile, but the past couple of trips there have been quieter and quieter. However, their newest addition makes it incredibly loud, and several people who have been on the sideline, say that when aggy starts swaying together in the stands it makes it look like the whole stadium is moving.

The Shoe was more intimidating, and louder in my opinion, but then again, I only went to the Shoe when it was a match up of two top five teams. But I definitely was in awe by the sound and how early everyone packed the stadium. Several of the Texas players made mention of this fact after the game and throughout the season.

DKR in Austin can get loud, but doesn't maintain the sound, and never appeared hostile or intimidating to me, but then again, I was a friendly. Nebraska is a pretty intimidating crowd, definitely loud, but then again I was there when they were closer to the cream of the crop then they are now.

I know somebody mentioned VA Tech, and it also seems like West Virginia has a pretty loud, intimidating crowd. But maybe they have just been getting more pub lately.
