Just saw an interview with Earl Eues, the Director of Emergency Prep in Terrebonne Parish. He said that Terrebonne Parish has a 12-13 foot levee to protect against the storm surge. Hopefully that can make a real difference.

Feel for you @Nutriaitch

Been thru four now... Sandy was terrifying... massive destruction... and it was only 115 mph

In Ohio I loved storms... but I now have a vastly different respect and fear of hurricanes...

My hope is that it passes quickly... Sandy just sat here... went on forever.. like 30 hours...
I remember the helplessness staring at the windows expecting them to implode and the roof to rip off

when it was over, pristine sky and blazing sunshine
walked to the end of the street and looked like we had been carpet bombed... wasn't a street passable that had so much as an unencumbered 200 yard stretch
the most studly trees taken out from the root pads and tossed a hundred yards
some on top of cars and into roofs...

IDA UPDATE -- Hurricane Ida is currently a Category 4 storm just southeast of New Orleans, but it's continuing to strengthen. Latest recon has detected 160 mph winds within the eyewall, potentially indicating it's now a Cat 5 - none of which have ever made landfall in Louisiana.
