I agree except for the fans over 30 or so. I think this did something different to them. It made it clear that no matter what they do against everyone else OSU is different.

They went into last years game believing - and got whipped. That was a low point - they thought. They were despondent and the way this season started were ready for another beat down. But they still had it in them to get fired up once things "turned" in the 2nd half against PSU. They were so ready to celebrate the second coming of 1969. When they went from that hope to an even worse loss than last year it cut to their very soul. It has taken something out of them that they needed to be party of this rivalry.

I can't stay away from their boards because it is such a sea of sadness. There are excuses. But there is little hope. They are redefining what Michigan football even means in a way that is designed to remove all meaning from losing to OSU.

It is glorious.

But we may have missed something here. Without Michigan as a rival - who are we?

All this is why, as much fun as it is to watch them crater, it's even more fun for me when they're good and they come in thinking, again, that they can win. I want them good enough to have hope, and even play it tough for a quarter or a half...just enough for them to think "this is the year". Fuck you. No it's not. It's not the year. Sure, eventually they'll slip on the mess they made masturbating over their "academics" and fall ass backwards into a win from time to time, but it's still not the year. It will never be the year because even after that happens we'll go back to plungering them for the next decade.

Good point. Which is why two of my favorite games are Robbery in the Desert and The Spot. And any close game against PSU.
