UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Might want to get to FOX Sports 1 if you have the chance. Chelsea-PSG is heading into Extra Time. Ibra was sent off, Cahill put Chelsea ahead late, but David Luiz, yes, David Luiz equalized with a fine header to send this into an extra 30 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Extra Time did not disappoint with Thiago Silva being the polarizing figure. Conceded the penalty, but also redeemed himself with the header that won the tie.

2nd Leg results:

Porto 4-0 Basel. Porto advance 5-1 on aggregate
Real Madrid 3-4 Schalke. Real Madrid advance 5-4 on aggregate. Really enthralling game. Schalke went all-in and nearly pulled it off, but left themselves exposed enough for RM to get the goals they needed. Very concerning display from the RM defense as they were cut to shreds numerous times by Schalke.

Bayern Munich 7-0 Shakhtar Donetsk. Bayern Munich advance 7-0 on aggregate.
Chelsea 2-2 PSG. PSG advance on aggregate 3-3 on away goals. Really poor game until the end, but exciting down the stretch. Ibra was sent off early, but Chelsea took until late to grab the opener. David Luiz ironically responded quickly with a great header. Thiago Silva handled foolishly in the box in ET to concede an early penalty that Hazard buried. Silva then redeemed himself on back-to-back corners as his first header was saved brilliantly by Courtois, but he was amazingly unmarked on the 2nd attempt and his looping header evaded Courtois to send PSG through despite being with 10 men for much of the game.

Juventus-Barcelona Final on June 6th in Berlin. Really impressed by workrate of the Juve players in the 2nd Leg against Madrid. Stayed true to their gameplan & struck when necessary. Will be interesting to see how the looming players strike in Spain will affect Barca with them most likely not playing again until the Final. Astonishing how well the Neymar-Suarez-Messi triumvirate has meshed together of late.

While I enjoy having replays of the qualifying matches on FS1 and FS2, I really wish they wouldn't have the final scoreline for that match run across the bottom while the replay is still going.

I'm beginning to believe City will never see the light of day in this competition. Never seen any team get such continually brutal draws.

I'm beginning to believe City will never see the light of day in this competition. Never seen any team get such continually brutal draws.

And at the same time being viewed in continual disfavor by the elite that run things at UEFA. Coincidence? I think not!

(Tin foil hat off, tongue out of cheek)

The 2013-14 draw was not bad at all (Viktoria Plzen and CSKA along with the de rigeur Bayern Munich), but all others have been to some extent rather absurd.

This one is really not that bad. Juve have looked pretty dire and Gladbach are the only team of the potential German opponents that don't aggressively press. That's the type of team City always struggle with in Europe.

Most of us actually think Sevilla is the biggest hurdle - more so than Juve. Getting out of the group at least should be do-able and even winning it is realistic.

It does grate to see United get their usual draw of utter nobodies (albeit with a good bit of travel required.) And Chelsea, good grief......

Ah well, whatever happens it is good to see all this kicking off next week!
