UF OL Ronnie "Taz" Wilson (official thread)

One of our top rivals would have to be Michigan State. They are very tough at home and seem to play us well. I'd also have to say Penn State. They're a very good program too.

P.S. I like the idea of a journal. It would be very interesting to see the process from the inside. Great idea HH!! :)

I think currently the next biggest rivalry would have to be Wisconsin. There has seemed to be a little bit of bad blood the last several years. In my time as a student the last 3 years, they are the only team we have a losing record against.

I like the idea of a journal, ASSUMING Taz has the time/energy to spare. I know we'd all like the perspective, but he should be made aware of the fact that we all understand that he is probably going to be very busy, and may not be able to accomodate our insane love of anything (potentially :))Buckeye.

In other words... feel free to tell us 'NO.'

I think most folks have answered your question Tax.

Michigan #1 Rival, followed closely (as of late) by Penn State, Wisconsin, or Michigan State in no particular order ... just depends on the year and how each team is doing.

Historically speaking, Illinois was our most traditional rival (I guess). Until this past season OSU and Illinois had met every year since 1914. That was easily our longest continuous rival game in terms of years. That streak was destined to end when Penn State entered the Big Ten. Each team (under current rules) in the Big Ten is assigned two "Rival" teams who you will always play, every year. Ours are Michigan and now Penn State. Eventually we were going to miss playing the Fighting Illini ... that was last year. The overall record versus Illinois is 58-29-3, so it wasn't the biggest rivalry in terms of having a close series or that each game had BigTen Championship implications. The game versus Illinois is played for the IlliBuck Trophy. The trophy is a wooden turtle (originally a live turtle that eventually died) that is passed to the winner of the game between two honor societies/fraternities at each school. The two fraternities meet each year a smoke a peace pipe as well ... Ah, those crazy frat guys!

Hey taz, I just want to say thanks for staying in touch. What you are doing is not just a cool thing, it is what recruitniks like us dream about! Some posters have got to play for the BUCKEYES, but most of us have to live vicariously thru others such as yourself(if you become a buck). SO THANKS for being cool!

BTW, have any coaches or schools as a whole really surprised you by being totally different than what you were expecting?

Fantastic stuff here Taz. Thank you very much for taking the time to keep us posted on what goes on. Keep in mind if you play ball in Columbus, this is how the city in general treats the football squad, you'd be right at home. Hell, I moved down to Columbus just to be in this atmosphere and I have nothing to do with the OSU program. I'm sure that some of this may come across as cheesy, but this is how passionate Ohio State fans are. Keep in mind that if the whole football thing doesn't work out after college you still will be the king of the crop in the state of Ohio. Once you become a part of the Ohio State program your legend grows. Little kids grow up in the yard throwing a football hoping to be you some day. Dad's buy replicas of your jersey hoping that one day their son will have the same privledge as you do. You will have media personell wanting to interview you. You will play on national television every week, everyone will know your name if you want it that way. Your opportunities are endless at OSU. Keep it real, best of luck this season. Have fun with this whole process, hopefully we'll see you in Columbus.
