You mean the weight lifting thread is not the most popular?

As I mentioned I do not lift heavy. I do use dumbbells but I think ours max out at 120 each. I do not lift that much! Using dumbbells is supposed involve more stabilizer muscles required to balance the weights.

I lift 5x a week with a comparable (to me) partner who several years ago was huge. When doing the flat bench, we use dumbells most of the time. What is your opinion on this? I find that I get more from it because I always have to control the weight more. Agree? Disagree?

By the way Mili, are we still the biggest MF truck on the road?
I've been using dumbbells exclusively lately, even for lower body (incidentally, powerblocks are pretty nice, in case anyone cares to check 'em out). I don't have a spotter, so I'm missing out on the forced reps, but the results have been as good as I got in the past with a barbell and a spotter, so I would tend to agree that dumbbells are at least just as good, provided you have sufficient weight, of course.

I can't stand lifting anymore. After 5 years of getting up at 5:30 3-4 days a week to lift in college I have a hard time bringing myself to do it now. The best I'll do is work on my arms and shoulders during rec league basketball season. My knees hurt too bad to squat or clean anymore. Nowadays I prefer to swim and do other cardio work. The only thing I don't get is I haven't lifted hard in 4 years and am much weaker, but my arms never really lost mass.

I still lift light and with limited reps.
I stop lifting in the summer once the high school and college kids fill up the gym. They are gone now and I have been slowly getting back into it the past weeks. If I stop I lose size and strength. Aerobically I can stop for months and start right back where I left off though.

I have degenerative arthritits now.
I don't, can't and won't particpate in any sporting events due to my knees.

I used to joke that the only joints I had that did not hurt were my elbows but lately my right elbow has pain. My doc asked me if I spend much time on the computer?

It is hell to get old but I do not think I would have changed anything.
