West Virginia 76, Ohio State 48 (Final)

It was a case where everyone was cold... that's rare. That's where we lacked having a leader like David Lighty... or even more so a Jamar Butler. The team is young, their main man Evan Turner wasn't on today, Mullens wasn't aggressive enough, and they lacked any form of team play or energy. WVU was able to break the D and started slow, but got comfortable real quick. The Bucks had no clue how to get back into the game and it showed with a 30+ point loss. I'd be happy with a .500 Big 10 season at this point.

After about the 13 minute mark in the 2nd half I just got up and went to throw the baseball around and the ending score surprised me because I wasn't expecting a rout like this. Also I don' think this will derail Ohio State's season but it might bring them down to earth now that they have been beaten.

We Just didn't show up when it counted. The Holidays. Youth. Whatever.

There is a reason 14 games was the longest winning streak in CBB. Shit happens.

I really wanted to see OSU beat Huggins. I desperately did not want to see Huggins humiliate OSU. I think he might have had his players a bit more ready to play than we were. Cincin..., er West Virginia, played marvelous basketball. They really were magnificent.

Until I see some trends - no worries.

The only thing that would really upset me is if I thought they quit in the second half. I think it was a young team finding itself unable to deal with the situation they were in and there was no leadership.

If they had not beaten ND and Miami I would be concerned for their confidence. As it is this is not the worst thing that can happen to a young team.

If only it weren't Huggins.....

Uh, no. But maybe you can understand why some would be frustrated.

I share the frustration. But I didn't buy the #13 ranking in the first place so I guess I'm not as shocked as some.

We had 3 total assists. When was the last time we had so few?

I was talking about that all game.

I keep hoping one of our guys will emerge as a true PG who sees the entire floor and can make the great pass. That's really the only weakness I see on our squad, but it'll get magnified against the better teams.

Only 2 assists as a team, so far (ET and BJ).

Just imagining how good our team could be with one other player...senior PG, Mike Conley.

This team doesn't have that guy, an experienced ball handler who can set things up and take control when times are tough.

This team lacks experience and a point guard. Both of those weaknesses will be exploited by good teams, at times. Today is one of those times.

Disappointed? Yes. Stunned and amazed? Not really. We have a young team and no point guard. There will be growing pains, at times, and other days we'll look really good.

It seemed like West Virginia's strengths today revolved around our weaknesses. Numero uno was they were extremely physical. Threw us completely out of our game. Disrupted our shots, went hard after every rebound, put a body on everyone on the court at all times. They did a tremendous job of scouting us. They had absolutely no problem with our press and they tore our zone to pieces with their penetration on drives to the hoop. The refs were rediculous... calling the ticky-tack ones and not calling the blatently obvious ones. Regardless, Huggins has a heck of a team there. It would have taken a perfect game for us (with Lighty in the starting line-up, consistency from the refs one way or the other, and better shooting) to beat these guys tonight. I hope WV plays everyone in their conference just as hard as they played us today.

This first loss was going to happen sooner rather than later with Lighty gone. I think these guys learned a lot today. Looking forward to how these guys respond against Iowa on Wednesday.

Today sucked, but we went 1-1 versus the Big East and 1-0 versus the ACC.

Now it's time to make our mark in conference.

Go Bucks! :osu:

it's 9:56 pm and WVU just grabbed another weakside offensive rebound.

I'm a little surprised Thad didn't run a lineup with Mullens and Lauderdale. We got destroyed on the offesnive glass. I guess we held our own on the other end as well, but defensive rebounds were a major hardship today.

Did you expect us to get our asses handed to us at home? Losses happen but potentially losing by 30 at home is unacceptable.

Actually I kind of did, but I didn't expect it to be WVU.

After Lighty went down a game like this was certainly possible given the youth and inexperience of this team.

That about says it all. They were due for a clinker, wish they could have waited. I must say I wasn't shocked by the result, but I'm still very excited by the potential with this squad. Great teaching possibilities with this one, Matta will be all over it.
