WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

A little off topic, but when Zwick was in for the last 8 minute drive of the game, did anyone catch the more uhh...animated than usual Troy Smith... I guess if I threw damn near 100% in the second half I'd be pretty happy too.

Did you notice that Troy saw himself up on the jumbotron during those shots? He kept looking up to see if he was still on it and he made sure he put on a show...

Yeah, I think Troy was having some fun, he earned it. If Troy wants to clown around in the 4th quarter after having a pretty good game, and leading the team to a blowout, then I'm all for it. I like seeing guys have fun......it is college football.

Santonio was celebrating his second to last (or possibly last) victory in the shoe ever. Perhaps he does talk too much (I haven't seen it), but I'm not gonna be the one to judge him based on a very brief snapshot of him.

When singing the post-game Carmen Ohio, Santonio stood next to Coach Tressel and was very "animated". I think he's realizing how soon his time in the 'Shoe will be over.

2. Holmes looked like he had to be held back after the game - what happend

This probably was difficult (or impossible) to see on tv, considering the camera only follows the ball, so here's what happened from my vantage point. I noticed early on, and it continued throughout the game, that the Illinois DBs were trying harder to attack Holmes when he was blocking them on running plays than they were trying to simply get him out of the way in order to chase our player with the ball. There was a lot of ticky-tack pushing that they were doing after the plays too--shoving Holmes for no apparent reason other than to try to irritate him. At several points I thought what they were doing was bush league, but Holmes to his credit did not retaliate.

this is exactly what I saw. I was surprised that Illinois didn't get flagged for a late hit. None of the hits were too extreme, but after it happened for about the 10th time I figured a flag would be thrown to calm down the Illinois secondary.

Every play that Santonio didn't catch a ball, whether it was thrown to him or not, #18 was in his earhole all the way back down the field. Santonio didn't even look at him. When the game was over, he just wanted to get the last laugh. You tha man Santonio.

That's exactly what I took from it watching on TV. He simply ran back to the huddle after each play while the Illinois player (18) was jawing the entire way back. I'm surprised the officials allowed this type of behavior to be honest. There's going to be some talking, sure, but that stuff was over the top, IMO.

Anyway, I think once the game was over Santonio decided to let them know that they are still Illinois and that he owned #18. I think that's a great way to handle that type of situation.

This same thing happened with Ginn against Minny I believe. A pass to his side was waay overthrown and the defender got in his face mask and walked with him for about 10 yards just yapping. Ginn looked at the official and put his hands out like "Why are you letting this go on?" The players are doing a great job keeping their composure. The Illinois defenders looked like a bunch of idiots talking while they are down 4 touchdowns.

That was the fly pattern where Smith threw it inside while Ginn remained outside...Ginn had just turned on the jets to put a step or so between him and the DB. The DB talked shit the whole time walking back, and when Ginn raised him arms a bit and looked to the ref, the ref just shook it off. I guess if you talk shit to someone totally superior to you athletically, it magically takes away some of their physical abilities. :roll1:

I don't see anything wrong with Holmes getting in the last laugh at the end of the game. As it has already been observed, the DB's for Illinois were talking shit the entire time and I think it took a ridiculous amount of class for the players to keep their mouths shut (and fists down) before the final whistle all things considered. If your going to talk trash then do it like Santonio did, let your actions speak on the field and if that doesn't shut them up then wait for the game to be over before you let the other guys know what you think of them. He didn't get penalized or hurt the team, all he did was cut an over-inflated ego back down to size. Personally I was glad to see him remind that jerk-off of his place, I hope he said something like, "See you in the NFL... oh wait, probably not."

Hopefully he was just being friendly after the NW game

I've been saying this all year...he's gone. I have absolutely no qualms about him leaving "early", seeing as he's been here four academic years. Had he played a couple plays in 2002, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. He has more than earned it. Here's hoping he's a first round pick.

I couldn't agree more. Plus he's got two young children in Florida and supposedly another one in the oven here in town.

if he were to return next year and suffer a career-ending injury, i'd hope that a local business owner or the football department would feel so selfish and considerate as to offer a lifetime $100k per year job. returning would be holmes' decison, a decision i highly doubt he'll make, but i'm certain that the buckeye loyal would go through a mourning period after such a travesty.

holmes' return would surely endear himself nearly as much as the most revered buckeyes before him have -- not that he is not already considered an all-time buckeye great.
