I'm sure there are some reputable people at Yahoo. There have been many cases in the past where more reputable news sources have broken complete and utter garbage stories that never ended up being remotely true.

Of this magnitude? I'd like to see these many examples, not including the rumor-mongering ESPN.

Hate to say it, something is wrong here. I'd honestly be more surprised if there wasn't anything at this point. I love Tressel and would still be surprised if he's the one lying, but something isn't right here. Respectable news sources don't throw shit at the wall and hope it sticks. They have no reason to do that.

Let me say this....I would bet all my vcash, my house, cars, bank accounts, first born and a night with my wife that JT in know way lied or mislead the investigation or delayed the telling someone if he really thought the source was creditable....The integrity and character he has shown it would shock me if there was anything to this as far as JT goes...

I totally agree with you. JT is a great man and honesty is of great value to him. I just don't see him hiding any of this.

1. Back away from the "lying" word. It's inflammatory and belies a great deal of naivete.

2. Obviously there was an investigation - the players have been suspended for 5 games. They wouldn't have been, had there been no investigation. You may quibble with the time frame of the investigation, but it took place.

3. I repeat - look at the history of Jim Tressel - his decision-making, his impact on young men. I don't claim he's infallible; no one is. But he is a fine, upstanding man, and firing him would be just about as stupid a decision as I can imagine.

Let's accept that there is a possibility of mistakes being made that could affect our opinions of Coach Tressel that would still fall far short of "heads rolling" being a good idea.

-The OSU athletic Department says they didn't know anything until Dec 8.

-Yahoo sports now supposedly has a source that claims Tressel was informed in April.

Someone is lying.

I just need to get this off my chest. If anyone has demonstrated sufficiently by his past action to warrant benefit of the doubt, it's Jim Tressel.

I'm embarrassed, dismayed and angered by those comments suggesting that he may have done something to warrant his dismissal. Just flabbergasted by the implication, to be honest. Coach Tressel has provided ample evidence that his judgment is usually absolutely on target. Even if this is a case when his decision-making was not ideal, he's got enough "in the bank" so that Buckeye fans need to support him.

JMHO. I'm a little emotional at the moment, obviously.

How would TV ratings affect Yahoo?

And you don't stay a reputable news source very long by breaking garbage stories. It's just a terrible idea all-around. I think people who think nothing is wrong here are being very naive. Just my opinion, obviously, and I really hope I'm wrong. I'd be very happy to be wrong.

Yea I just can't see any way that Ohio State makes it through this unscathed, if true...and again I just can't see yahoo throwing this against the wall without further evidence, either. That would mean somebody at tOSU would be lying. Maybe the best scenario would be the players lying to Tressel to his face after he confronted them. However, again, Gene Smith said that tOSU didn't know anything until December 8.
