This week's Yankee-Killers? The Kansas City Royals, who improved their record to 16-37 on the season by sweeping a three-game series from Steinbrenner'$ Mercenarie$.

KC won again tonight, 5-2, with Matt Stairs hitting a home run (I told you they should've beaned him).

Old George's head is probably exploding right now...:pissed:

Not a good day to be a Yankee fan.

Is that Sears standing up, Misanthrope next to him drinking the beer, and Sloopy next to him praying because the Yankees need some intervention?

thenumber7: "How come Jeter is still the one who kills the Sox more than anyone?"

Bitchandmope: "Now don't confuse Stupy by pointing out the contradictions of his own points. Besides, he's switched gears twice already in this thread, so what's another lane change in the face of evidence that shoots his argument to hell?"

Since none of you numb-nuts can read, I repeat the point: Piazza's beaning was THE FACTOR in him not hitting Clemens anymore. And, the beaning MAY have been a factor in his decline since 2000.

I really don't care to comment on Piazza's overall decline since 2000. That was a stupid conversation brought up by IDroppedTheSope anyway.

Brutus1: "Surprisingly Jeter is batting .219 against the Sox in that time period. Not the Mendoza, but pretty darn close. I tend to believe it's more a matter of hitting against Schilling and Pedro being the reason and not the beanings. Against this current crop of Boston pitchers he's hitting .265. His avg last year against them was a Mendoza-like .200."

How is this possible? Jeter's a lifetime .314 hitter! According to Bitchin&Mopin, a .314 hitter should hit exactly .314 against everyone else??

Now that Brutus has shoved this in your face, what's the explanation??

A .314 hitter has hit .200 against the team that has beaned him 8 times in that span. What could be the reason for that???

AKAK: "Sloops... umm sure, beanballs, Jeter, Piazza, whatever.... could you address this "Royals" issue, possibly?"

Its like I said 100 times, my friend. The Yankee dynasty ended in 2001. Since then, its a bunch of overpaid, pampered, overconfident superstars who have sloppy at-bats & don't play hard every day.

This sweep doesn't surprise me. The Yankees also lost 2 out of 3 to the 2003 Tigers at Comerica, who were the worst team of all time. If you look at the M.O. of the Yankees since 2002, this series is typical.

I will say this: I did enjoy watching the Royals play. They got some promising kids on that team, although they're way too young to compete just yet.

It was very refreshing to watch a team that wanted to play and had something to prove. I applaud the Royals. They were 100 times better than my team the last three days. Its a lot better than the crap I have to watch everyday, with a bunch of guys who should have postage stamps on their forehead (i.e. mailing it in).

BuckeyeNation27: "ill go out on a limb and guess better pitching?"

Not possible. Go back and read Bitchandmope's posts. Its not possible for Jeter to hit .200 against the Red Sox unless he is on the decline, like Piazza was against Clemens.

Ahh... I just wanted to hear you say it again... :wink2:

Look, to me, I don't care if the Yankees lose. As long as the organization as a whole is doing the right things. I wanted the team to be patient in 2002 after they lost O'Neill, Brosius, etc. instead of making stupid signings and trading away kids.

Had they taken the quick hit back then, they'd be back to winning Championships right now. But instead, they made stupid moves like letting Mark Prior walk (over money), trading Damaso Marte (who's lights out for the White Sox - 2.29 ERA) for Enrique Wilson, trading Ted Lilly for Jeff Weaver, then trading Yhency Brazoban (11 saves for L.A.) for no reason to get rid of Weaver, and the ultimate stupidity in signing Giambi (who's presence made them pass on David Ortiz the next season, and who's contract made them pass on Carlos Beltran this last offseason).

The biggest thing that upset me the last few days is not the Royals sweep, but the fact that Jered Weaver & Stephen Drew signed with their teams. (The Yankees had agreements in place with Scott Boras for both players in next weeks' draft if they re-entered).

The Yanks have started the process of rebuilding the minor leagues two years ago. They've got some good kids in Rookie & A-Ball, and they've got $50 million coming off the payroll next season. They'll be back sooner than later.

i find it humorous that you say this, considering teams like the yankees (and now red sox) have made it impossible for this team to be anything but promising. the royals will be broken up this year, their talent spread out to the yankees and red sox of the league, and next year they will suck again.

not that the yankees ruined baseball or anything. :roll2:

"the royals will be broken up this year, their talent spread out to the yankees and red sox of the league, and next year they will suck again."

None of the kids on the Royals are close to being Arbitration-eligible yet. They're not going anywhere for at least two to three years.

If the Royals do things the right way, they can compete again. See: Minnesota Twins.

"not that the yankees ruined baseball or anything."

The Yankees didn't ruin shit. What team gave out outrageous contracts to Mark Davis, Storm Davis, David Cone, etc. in the early 90's?? That's right: the Kansas City Royals. Who broke the $5 million barrier with Canseco? The Oakland A's. Every team had a hand in making baseball what it is today. Every single one, save maybe the Mets who didn't sign a free agent for years in protest.

Eventually, if you don't practice fiscal responsibility, you're gonna price yourself out of the market and into the hands of the team with the most money. Which is exactly what happened.
