Youth Football - anybody have a kid playing?

This past saturday Colten's team played Trimble to a score 18-6.
Colten scored all 3 TDs for Miller one of a recovery of the qbs fumble, would have been 4 had one not been called back. Still waiting on rushing yards and carries, he finally got to play linebacker, still dont have stats on that either. I'll update tonight.

He has been playing tailback and safety/Lb to this point, although now in practice it looks like he will be taking over at Qb.. This occured after he was practicing a halfback pass and the coaches realized that 11 years old that little twerp can appearantly throw it 50 yards..

Wow, he can do it all. I hope the coaches don't throw away a sure thing at TB to have a chance of completing a few passes.
At the youth level, (sounds like he is in about 5th grade?) passing the ball is very dicey - even if you have a great QB who can get the ball to a receiver, you have to have someone who can actually catch the dang thing. Then there is the whole problem of pass blocking.
Just saying, for Colten's sake, they don't waste a great TB who can dominate games for you, in search of a QB whose passing performance is so dependent on his receivers. But on the bright side, he will have the ball in his hands on every play - maybe they plan to use alot of QB running plays, too.

I can't imagine using him as a passing qb, im thinking they would want to use him more like an option type qb since there is another fairly talented running back on the team too.

Oh, and he is 6th grade.

OK, cool. Hope it works out for Colten. Do they already run some option?

Ho hum, for the latest Nightmare update:
3 carries for 99 yards and 2 TDs.
Season totals through 7 games:
55 carries, 846 yards (15.4 YPC), 16 TDs
On Defense, don't know how many tackles (not enough!) 3 INTs (2 returned fo TD, but one of those was called back)
Pretty much the same as the last couple of weeks - letting guys get carries and experience for next year, and having some fun.
The Defense is looking MUCH better. 3 more games before playoffs start.

I don't know what league your kids play in... totally different in the league I coach. If you score two TD's and can manage to convert one point after attempt, you'll more than like win the game.

Our league is all D... no O to speak of... most of the time the O goes backwards until they hit a big play. There seems to be a fumble every 4-5 plays, and the O-line cannot block at all (ie most of the D-line is in the backfield before the QB hands the ball off)... this is across the league... funny how different leagues can be. (although in our leage there are many rules that hurt the O.... depending on the size of the kid, there are limits to where he can play. Pulling guards cannot pull outside of the TE. All motion must go away from the ball. No crack blocks, the little kids are the backfield, no blitzing or stunting on the d-line, etc.)...

You should start a new thread under "Recruiting":

These days it is never too early to start the recruiting process!!!!

Our league is similar, and most teams do run wide all the time and try to hit the big play.
We run a double wing offense, and actually run inside alot and our power plays are designed to hit the hole between the TE and the wingback.
We pull the offside guard and tackle sometimes.
So far this year we have had 8 drives of at least 9 plays. (13, 9, 17, 10, 21, 17, 9, 9) We aren't quite 3 yards and a cloud of dust, but we do run certain plays to set up other plays off the same motion and formation - that's when we try to hit the homerun.

We use very tight splits and usually don't allow any penetration into our backfield.

We have a point-limit rule where you can't win by more than 34 points - a few teams we could have scored at least 60 if we had wanted to. Basically every play a TD. those are the games where you let the littlest guys run the ball. we do have a weight limit you have to be under in order to be allowed to run the ball or even line up in a position eligible to run or catch the ball.

We had one game where we ran 59 plays (with 2 fumbled snaps and 2 fumbled handoffs to 2nd string RBs) and the other team only ran about 15 plays.

The defenses are limited until the opponent is inside the D's 10 yardline, then anything goes.

Team lost this week, game is under appeal though.
Played Athens this week, they had a 6 ft rb, that they had taking laxitives and running sprints before the game to get him down under 125 ilbs.
Colten had an Int on a 2 point conversion and took it the distance! (refs called it back, saying defense cant score on the extra point)??
He only scored 1 TD, and over 100 yards rushing and 150 yards passing. He also threw for a two point score after the TD.
He has scored 9 of the teams 10 TDs so far.

There was an article on him in the Perry Country Tribune that I will have posted on here asap.

I think the rule not allowing the defense to score on an extra point is a youth league rule - I know it's true in our league.

Congrats to Colten on another great game!

i haven't had much to talk about due to the level of competition we've been playing (and the fact that we discovered one of the other organizations was scouting us - which is illegal) has caused us to not run hardly any of the starting offense the last 5 games.
Today's game, however, was the last regular season game before th playoffs wo we played our normal game.

The result: Nightmare had 8 carries for 174 yards and 2 TDs and 1 extra point.

The previous 5 games he had only had 6 carries total, and none at all the last two games, but he still got 1020 yards on 63 carries for the regular season, with 19 TDs.
that's 16.2 yards per carry, and a TD every 3.3 touches. I'll take that!

Rumor has it we are playing another undefeated team in the first round of the playoffs, but we won't know until monday night. It diesn't matter, though. i don't think anybody can stop our offense other than us making mistakes. Our D has gotten steadily better the last month or so, (8 shutouts out of 10 games) and we are feeling very confident going into the playoffs.

Wish us luck!

hell the "defense can't score on extra point" is a high school rule too, alteast in ohio it is, in our last jv game we blocked the extra point and the play was blown dead, i couldn't figure it why until the next week when we had a extra point blocked and i yelled "GET ON THE BALL" and the coach said there was no need because in hs you can't advance a blocked extra point, not sure on field goal attempts, but it applies on all PAT plays(either 2 point or 1 point)

Best of luck in the playoffs!

(Once again, I'm just following instructions). :wink2:

Colten's season ended this past weekend with a loss in the second round of the playoffs to the number one seeded team.
His season was 7 games long, he ran for over 1,400 yards and 13 TDs. Not sure about his other stats right now, but if i get that info I'll happily pass it along.
