2012 Offense Discussion

As far as TOP goes..It's really a garbage stat as far as I can tell at this point.

2010 Rose Bowl TOP:
tOSU: 41:37
Oregon: 18:23

I think TOP makes a huge difference depending on teams involved and the schemes of each. I was at this game and it seemed like we won because of the TOP spread.

OK Mr. Chicken-Egg-Chicken-Egg  We had more points because of TOP.

It's interesting how high flying offensive teams can be brought down to earth by a good defense and controlling the game. I can't wait to see us get back to a reliable D while still having this offense.

Watched the game again and paid attention to the two drives where Smith dropped the sure TD passes...we kicked a FG on the drive he dropped the first and scored a TD anyway on the drive he dropped the second, so in reality it only cost us four points.

Adding those four points and assuming we at least kick a FG if Miller didn't force that endzone INT we'd have 58 points, 52 of which would've come via the offense. Catching the first TD drop would've also put us over 600 yards of offense.

I believe Ohio State would benefit greatly from adapting some formations/schemes from the Washington Redskins.

With the production we get from Braxton, along with three seemingly capable running backs, I think it would be highly effective.

The following formation, used against the Giants yesterday, completely shredded the Giants rush defense; and also allowed for some huge pass lanes across the middle:

Really like that diamond formation. Seems like you could run just about any type of play from it.

It's funny, I was watching that game and they were talking about how much the redskins took from Urban Meyers offenses to get ready for RGIII.

Wasn't their average scoring drive that year under 2 minutes? That means with those numbers, they should have scored 9 TDs. I agree TOP matters, but they were saying for a long time that TOP was worthless because they scored so fast.

It's the other way around. Shanahan got the offense from Meyer (seriously). RG3 is just that amazing of a passer.

Holy Woodrow Hayes

tOSU ranks sixth in rushing offense this year (2012):
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/stats/byteam?cat1=offense&cat2=Rushing&conference=I-A_all

Allow me to be among the first to talk about rushing in 2013 (because the 2013 offense is the 2012 offense, so this post is on-topic):
- All RBs back including Jordan Hall, Braxton Miller, and Rod Smith and Bri'onte Dunn
- All RBs one year better
- Lose only one from O-line, and have a known replacement for him
- O-line one year better
- Passing game one year better, so opponents cannot load the box
- All receivers and QBs back (but Stony)
- Fullback already gone
- Ezekial and Wailin Jailin and Taivon Jacobs and Jordan Hall capable of Pivot
- Will be playing with our starting tailback
- Second string O-line one year better
- New wideout recruits possible

Holy Woodrow Hayes! Wild and crazy Walrus ball!
