General Recruiting Discussion and Tangents (Merged)

LordJeffBuck;2095862; said:
Hall, Hyde, Smith, and Berry combined for 238 carries for 1,095 yards (4.6 average) and 9 touchdowns and 3 fumbles lost (2 for Smith in just 29 attempts). Take out Hyde's 63-yard touchdown run, and the average drops to just 4.35 per carry.
Behind a line with possibly two first-round draft picks (though Brewster has slipped a lot this season).

Im not exactly the biggest fan of kiffin and usc, but he has kept usc on the move despite their sanctions. I hope we keep up the same type of quality nationwide for the next few years like usc. Take a look at the guys transferring out, its like a HS all star team!

They haven't felt the full impact of the sanctions yet. Wait until the schollie reductions start catching up in 2013 and beyond...

Interesting article on recruits' "Twitter posts":

For top football recruits, behavior on social media has consequences

In most football locker rooms, the words recruit Yuri Wright used on Twitter tend to pepper casual conversation between teammates -- provided no coaches are around. Most players would not use the kind of language Wright used around their mothers, their grandmothers or their teachers. Nor would they stand before a room packed with more than 1,600 people and repeatedly yell out their favorite slang term for a particular part of a woman's anatomy.
But that is essentially what Wright did. The cornerback from New Jersey's Don Bosco Prep protected his Twitter feed, only allowing those he chose to see his tweets. Still, he allowed more than 1,600 followers to read his musings and then he filled his feed with what appeared to be rejected lyrics from 2 Live Crew's debut album. In the confines of a locker room, this wouldn't be a problem. Teenage boys tend to have foul mouths. Some of the conversations in my high school locker room would make The Aristocrats seem tame. But those conversations remained private because in the mid-90s, only rich people had cell phones and only hardcore nerds used the Web.
In 2012, Wright's side of those conversations became a huge problem.
Michigan stopped recruiting Wright because of his foul tweets. Don Bosco Prep, a Catholic school, expelled Wright for the feed, which has since been taken down. (Screen shots of the tweets litter the web. If you want to read them, they aren't difficult to find.) Wright committed to Colorado this week. This is not a reason to rip Colorado. Wright didn't commit a crime, after all. Still, the words we type have consequences. The maintenance of my own Twitter feed is not a job requirement, but SI would fire me in a heartbeat if I began unleashing streams of profanity on Twitter. My Twitter feed reflects my personal opinions, but those opinions reflect upon my employer.
.
? Noah Spence, a Harrisburg, Pa., defensive end committed to Ohio State, occasionally gets existential.

Urban Meyer has hosted 16 uncommitted prospects on official visits so far, and has received commitments from 8 of them:

Player...................Visit ended...Commitment
1. Bri'onte Dunn............12/11........12/13
2. Se'Von Pittman...........12/11........12/12
3. Tommy Schutt.............12/11........12/12
4. Noah Spence..............12/18........12/18
5. Taylor Decker............01/15........01/15
6. David Perkins............01/15........01/16
7. Joey O'Connor............01/15........01/17
8. Camren Williams..........01/20........01/20

Every player on the above list committed within two days of the end of his official visit to Ohio State.

The other prospects who visited are:

Player.................Visit ended
1. Joel Caleb.............12/04
2. Kyle Dodson............12/11
3. Jordan Diamond.........12/11
4. Bam Bradley............12/18
5. Davonte Neal...........01/15
6. Armani Reeves..........01/20
7. Demetrious Cox.........01/22
8. Jamal Marcus...........01/22

All of the players in the second list remain uncommitted, but none can be said to favor the Buckeyes (although a couple can be considered 50/50 right now).

I wonder if this will be an ongoing pattern with Meyer - that kids either commit to him very quickly or not at all.

And of the kids who didn't commit, I wonder how many of them were "dropped" or "slow played" by Meyer.

I don't think we can really analyze that data until signing day has passed and all those kids have made their decisions. I know you aren't implying that the data suggests one way or the other, but in regards to any patterns shown, I think the discussion would just be too speculative at this point. Once we know where they're all ending up, it will be easier to deduce what the stats are telling us.

All of them save Dunn were lineman or LBers and Dunn was a real tug of war for a while. I find this interesting and speculate that it might be the result of a few things: terrible offense at tOSU last year, lots of success in the past on the D side for tOSU, etc. Seems especially true when thinking of the hesitation with Neal and Diggs so far. Granted UFM got started late in the process but he was late in the game for Spence and that didn't matter. My takeaway is this will change very soon as the offense starts to roll, Braxton is on the highlight films, etc. but for now this is hanging over us. For now.
