Urban Meyer has hosted 16 uncommitted prospects on official visits so far, and has received commitments from 8 of them:

Player...................Visit ended...Commitment
1. Bri'onte Dunn............12/11........12/13
2. Se'Von Pittman...........12/11........12/12
3. Tommy Schutt.............12/11........12/12
4. Noah Spence..............12/18........12/18
5. Taylor Decker............01/15........01/15
6. David Perkins............01/15........01/16
7. Joey O'Connor............01/15........01/17
8. Camren Williams..........01/20........01/20

Every player on the above list committed within two days of the end of his official visit to Ohio State.

The other prospects who visited are:

Player.................Visit ended
1. Joel Caleb.............12/04
2. Kyle Dodson............12/11
3. Jordan Diamond.........12/11
4. Bam Bradley............12/18
5. Davonte Neal...........01/15
6. Armani Reeves..........01/20
7. Demetrious Cox.........01/22
8. Jamal Marcus...........01/22

All of the players in the second list remain uncommitted, but none can be said to favor the Buckeyes (although a couple can be considered 50/50 right now).

I wonder if this will be an ongoing pattern with Meyer - that kids either commit to him very quickly or not at all.

And of the kids who didn't commit, I wonder how many of them were "dropped" or "slow played" by Meyer.

I would guess it has more to do with the personality of the specific recruit. Some people are impulse buyers and others will always shop around before making a major purchase.

It is no secret that some recruits just enjoy playing the "recruiting game"; and like getting all the attention that an "uncommitted" recruit gets and they want to string it out as long as possible. In addition, you may never know, but it is possible that some of these "uncommitted" made a private commitment to the coach to be guaranteed a spot.

Rivals seems to think Urban will close with a bang.

:slappy:

Nee is a pendejo

Chris Nee: I would normally say that honor belongs to Urban Meyer, but with Ohio State pushing tight on numbers I don't think he will be able to pull many rabbits out of his hat, so to speak. With that in mind, I'd say Lane Kiffin. USC always seems to be one of the best teams at closing and this year looks no different. Southern Cal could close with a pull that includes five-star offensive lineman Zach Banner, five-star offensive lineman Kyle Murphy, five-star wide receiver Nelson Agholor, four-star athlete D.J. Foster and four-star defensive end Arik Armstead. While they aren't likely to land all five, I'd be willing to bet the Trojans land more of that bunch than they don't.

Because they dont have any scholarship restrictions either.

I don't think we have enough data. 50% is high considering the stature of most of the recruits involved. I can't wait to see how Meyer does when he can host recruits on a game day weekend.

Big Ten offering recruits security of four-year guaranteed scholarship | cleveland.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- When football recruits at Ohio State sign their National Letters of Intent Wednesday, they should have greater guarantees about their future than ever before in the modern era of college sports.

Buckeyes, as well as players at most -- if not all -- Big Ten schools and some other programs around the country, are signing four-year scholarships instead of renewable one-year scholarships, as has been the standard. After an NCAA rule change, Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany encouraged conference schools to offer four-year grants. Administrators from the SEC and the MAC told The Plain Dealer their conferences haven't taken a position and left the decision to schools.

B1G schools offering 4-year scholarships - ESPN

The NCAA has supported a plan to make four-year scholarships a permissable benefit, and the full membership of the NCAA is expected to approve of that measure this month. Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany has encouraged league schools to offer four-year scholarships, Lesmerises reports.

I really didn't know where else to put, but thought this was interesting..

GerdOzone Tony Gerdeman
Looking at Rivals' rankings of Ohio's top player for the last decade. When that top player doesn't end up a Buckeye, it's rarely a loss.

In 2003, Prescott Burgess went to Michigan. He would have eventually played. But the Buckeyes did okay at linebacker without him.

In 2007, Ben Martin went to Tennessee and started 19 games in an injury-plagued career. He finished with six sacks in his career.

In 2009, Justin Turner went to Michigan. He is no longer there. No was he there long.

In 2010, Latwan Anderson went to Miami to run track because there was no room on the FB team for him. That was the highlight of his career.

The public nature of "verbals" is the problem. He just needs to sign. In advance of that it is between he and the staff.

Yep - same with EZE and the rest of them. If there wasn't so much pressure put on them by the mediots and the fanbases to verbally commit to a school before they are required by the rules (i.e. LOI day), none of this drama would be occurring.

What pressure is that? Correct me if I am wrong, but they choose to verbally commit to a school do they not? It is their choice and they dont have to commit if they arent ready.

How about getting hit up for comments by some recruiting reporter while you're trying to do your homework? Or getting text messages from various assistant coaches?

There's a lot of pressure on these kids, from adults who should know better to their peers and even the other kids in their recruiting class.
