RB Jordan Hall (Official Thread)

http://cfn.scout.com/2/1326596.html

2013 Who's Hot & Not

Week 3

Ohio State RB Jordan Hall

Hall wasn't even supposed to be the Buckeye starter, a job earmarked for Carlos Hyde before he got suspended. Hall, like Kenny Guiton at quarterback, has operated with a next-man-in mentality, rushing for more than 400 yards in the first three games. Saturday at Cal, Hall went for a career-best 168 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries.

I get the sneaking suspicion that we are going to end up with two 1000 yard rushers on the year... Hall and Hyde.
Don't forget about Mr. Miller

I put their chances from best to worst in this order:
  1. Hall
  2. Miller
  3. Hyde
Hall is far and away the best chance because of his fantastic start to the season. He's already over 400 yards. The games are gonna get tougher and his carries seem bound to diminish, but he would only need to average 60 ypg (including a bowl game) to reach the mark. Less than that actually if the Buckeyes make the CCG as well.

I don't like Miller's chances to get there, but he's second on the list because he's such a dynamic runner and the ball will be in his hands on pretty much every play. The time he has missed, the time he might yet miss and the development of the passing game are all factors that will make it less likely to happen.

I don't really see a chance for Hyde to get there. We're talking about a player who hasn't even played yet this season. He'd have to average 100 ypg from here on out, including a bowl. Slightly less than that if the Bucks make it to Indy. In my IMO he had a better chance to do it last season and didn't make it. This year Jordan Hall is healthy, Dontre Wilson is taking carries and the coaches seem intent on passing more than they did last season.

With the depth of talent we have on this roster Hydes 3 game suspension is sending a very LOUD & CLEAR message to the players and i.e. "screw up and you may not see the field again because someone will pick up where you left off and we won't skip a beat."

I'd be fine without a 1000yd rusher. I'd rather have the wealth spread and get as many game ready RBs reps as possible.
I also don't see hall getting 1000yds because as the season progresses, the coaches, imo, will want to get him in the h back role and let guys like hyde, smith and ball run out of the backfield. Hall's versatility is too much to keep at just RB all season, especially with our depth and also with his ability to catch and move in space.
