tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I see a lot of talk about the TE, RBs, DL, etc for 2016 but don't forget QB. If we get Guarantano I am going to be jacked because I think he has the makings of being one of the all time best QBs tOSU will have ever had. He is going to be a stud.
Guarantano is reportedly wavering a bit because he wasn't expecting two QBs in the '15 class. It looks like it will take some work to get him back in the fold after practically being a lock leading up to signing day.

I read that article. I am just hoping UFM can work his magic and get him back in the fold. The thing that concerns me the most is the legacy aspect of RU, but I think we are going to get him like we did Gibson. Power or positive thinking.

Though it'd be nice to get Guarantano, he's not a need IMO. This offense can run efficiently with a number of QBs, Haskins, Pass, etc. OSU needs someone to get the ball to our playmakers, and make a play IF needed. I wouldn't want to the staff to put their eggs in the Guarantano basket. After the 2 QBs in 2015, QB isn't a necessity in 2016, its more of a position wed like to get someone in on. There are even more names that will emerge at the position, nothing to even worry about. I can understand wanting to stay home and try and make your home team relevant... Good luck with that

I believe there was a reason that the first day after the dead period Urban visited Guarantano. I know Gary and Walker are also in the area but Guarantano is going to be great and I don't think Urban is ever going to pass on a QB like him no matter how many we have. And like Urban has said numerous times, all three QBs could possibly be gone after next season, two will be gone for certain he feels.

And if all 3 are gone were still left with Collier, Gibson and Burrow, cupboard far from bare. As much as I'd love to get Guarantano, we're good with or without him. I'm not saying we pass over him at all, but he's not the most important recruit in this class.

I'm with you on this. It would be nice to land one of the top QBs, but it's not the #1 priority for this recruiting class. More of a "want" than a need. (In the case of Guarantano it's a "want very much.")

Barrett theoretically could leave after next season, but I feel pretty strongly that he'll stick around through at least 2016 and likely even 2017. There's time for the next big thing at QB for the Buckeyes to develop and I love the two we got last class. Now, if Gibson moves to WR between now and next February, then I think the need at QB ratchets up another notch and becomes a bit more of a priority.

In my mind, we got spoiled this year by having three QBs that are in the top 10 in college, regardless of class. We have no idea that Collier, Gibson, and Burrow are indeed going to be all that good, and as we saw this year, we could very easily go from 1st to 3rd string QB in a heartbeat. So, with that in mind I think getting the best available 2016 QB is important...

Why we shouldn't be too worried if OSU misses out on Guarantano.

Yeah, but I kinda want the guy the coaches want. They singled out JT Barrett a couple years ago and that turned out to be spot on. They singled out Deshaun Watson the year after that and we all can see how talented he can be when healthy. So this is the ultimate "trust the coaches" and if they think Guarantano is the guy this year, then he's quite the talent. They seem to have an eye for it.

I'm all for trusting the coaches. But I highly doubt this staff is only after 1 QB this early in the process. Haskins was also considered their guy for a while too. I think we'll see multiple "guys" and if its Guarantano I'm all for it. I'm just stating we're not getting chopped liver if we don't land Guarantano.
