'05 CA OL Kevin Bemoll (California signee)

I felt better about the kid after reading his side of things in the Rivals article.

Seems like he's been thinking about things a lot.

I think the distance is the main factor, the allegations were the straw that broke the camel's back.

Didn't rule out a visit with his mom to OSU yet. Though not promising.

Let's let this kid think things out in peace for a few weeks.

I'd say he's definitely headed elsewhere. But never say never.

One needs to do nothing but compare the Bemoll threads on buckeyeplanet and bucknuts to understand where the intelligent and respectful Buckeye fan posts. I can understand disappointment with the loss of a recruit, but the posts on that site are downright shameful. Whenever I feel like lowering my IQ, I will go over there and read the recruiting board and like clockwork, I automatically feel less knowledgable for having visited. Congrats to all the contributors of this site.

Welcome to the Planet HolyBuck; you're exactly right. I used to post regularly on BNuts, and still do occassionally, but I spend 100 times the amount of time on this site. I generally only go over there when I want a good laugh.

Kind of OT, but I really like this board because of its structure. Over there, there isn't really any. They have maybe 4-5 threads on each recruit, w/a new one everyday. Here it is much more polished. Also, these are monitered much better (wtg, nutty and buckskin). Anyways, just wanted ot add a few words seeing as how I am a pretty new member myself.

There's always the chance that OSU may have asked him to look around.....I obviously wasn't going to say this if he was going to OSU on this board....but I've heard from numerous sources that he's very overrated.....you'd have wonder why SC and UCLA weren't after him.....anyways Ihope he is successful wherever he goes

Hate to use such a pun, but you've "earned your stripes" over here. If you had said something like this awhile back before he decommitted from us, we wouldn't have been so taken aback by him doing so because we would've considered your view point.

I agree, had almost anyone else said this it would've been deleted, but has stripes been wrong? Not that I remember.

Wstripes, you certainly know much about recruiting. Many "seniors" here on this site, including myself (though I am not a senior nor am I guru like them), enjoy your views and your opinions. Much more often than not, you are correct. Unfortunately, I have to cordially disagree on this one as it does not corrolate with JT's character to recruit a kid and than ask him to look else where because "other" people think KB is overrated. JT in facts have recruited many players that other coaches don't bother to look. in addition, that move would really make OSU look horrible, and it will affect the California pipeline...not be mention betrayal to Ryan William's good friend. Did Ryan's dad said that KB is like another son? Anyway, that rumor might be just another ploy to make OSU look bad.

I wouldnt call 1 player in years a pipeline.
However I do believe you are correct that with the talent MV has next year,
Tressel would be very unwise to snub anyone from that school right now.

...And Helpinghand and a kid named Morgan down in Raleigh would probably disagree with you. If wstripes is right, so what? I don't think it says anything bad about Jim Tressel's character. Recruits know - or should know that a scholarship offer is equally as binding as their own verbal commitment - which is not at all. A prospect backing out of a verbal is morally equal to a coach backing out of an offer. Good or bad, they're both a part of the recruiting game.

He may have been asked to greyshirt...or something along those lines....I'm not saying that's what happened, but you have to wonder about this....especially when Ryan WIlliams doesn't seem to be effected by the rumors going around...I'll find out for sure....But schools do this all the time and I don't think it looks bad on JT at all...if it were the case.....But I've spoken to people close to MV and Bemoll isn't the quickest of OL...Again, I hope everything works out for him....But it's not that big of a loss for you guys...imo.....

well said JLB...

Bemoll could have withdrawn himself, Tressel could have withdrawn the offer, there could have been any number of reasons this happened. Maybe many reasons all rolled into one. Unless we find out the facts of what was actually going on behind the scenes, we can't pass judgment on either of them.

I guess it could be possible, but it's pretty clear we have zero O-Linemen left on the recruiting board. The popular train of thought was that OSU would take 3, if not 4, OL in this class. And with a couple possible unexpected scholarships opening up, I don't think it's a numbers crunch. If Bemoll is good enough for Oregon and Cal, he is good enough for OSU... especially since OSU offered relatively early in the year.

I saw Mission Viejo play twice this year and Kevin Bemoll is powerful run blocker with a very aggressive style, as for being slow I didn't think it took him that long to get up off the D-lineman he kept crushing, as for Ryan Williams good solid player with a HUGE motor and decent quickness, if he doesn't become a stud at tOSU it will not be for lack of effort.<O:p</O:p

The true star at Mission Viejo was the Jr. tailback Moline, that kid has got that Buckeye style of football written all over him, keep rubbing your lucky Bucknuts and maybe we land him next year. Think Larry Csonka, without the hunting jacket.<O:p</O:p

The problem with the theory that OSU in some manner backed off Bemoll is that it ignores Ronnie Wilson. If OSU was backing off Bemoll, then it means that they also simply weren't interested in Wilson. I find it hard to believe that OSU wanted NEITHER of these guys.

Edited for typos only.
