'08 FL WR/DB Brandon Harris (Miami Signee)

I think he will probably pick Miami as well...BUT... Tress has a relationaship with another coach from south Florida. That school produces talent every year. Coach Harris is impressed with Tressel and we may get "access" to recruits where other schools may not. An example would be if coach Harris had a kid that was awesome but under the radar. Coaches like Tress can call him and ask who HE HAS COMING DOWN THE PIKE. We may snag a late bloomer. Its like wrestling you make a move and it sets you up down the road.

I think its an example of how good of a recruiter JT is just to be in the game this late. If we do get him we have done amazing in Florida this season...hopefully this continues.

Good points, it is like magnetism, like attracts like, Tressel is a honest, straightforward, caring individual. Kids who value these things over the frill will be attracted to tOSU and that gives the staff a chance. That is really all you can ask when it comes to out of state players, specially those who have traditional power choices close to home.

The more kids come north to tOSU, and the more the local coaches are exposed to the staff, the more likely it becomes that tOSU can become a big player in not only the sleeper type talent, but the top notch talent, i.e, Brewster, Sabino, Harris.

UM, Ohio State lead chase for BTW's Harris

UM, Ohio State lead chase for BTW's Harris

By MANNY NAVARRO

Booker T. Washington cornerback Brandon Harris, one of the nation's few remaining, prominent uncommitted football recruits, made an official visit to the University of Miami this past weekend in hopes of narrowing his college choice.

And it appears at least he did -- with the Hurricanes emerging as one of two leaders to sign him to a scholarship Feb. 6 on National Signing Day.

''At this point, the two schools that stand out are Ohio State and Miami,'' Harris said Sunday night after concluding his two-day visit to UM. ``Things could change at the end of next week. But as of right now, those are the ones standing out [after] the home visits and official visits.

``They've made me feel comfortable around them, the program and their players. When we did our home visits, we just didn't talk about football, but about life in general. We were able to relate on different issues. They made my parents feel comfortable, we grew to trust them and that they would take care of me if I were to choose their school.

``Actually, I feel the same way about Central Florida. They made me feel like I can trust them. If I were to go there, I'd be in good hands.''

cont'd...

From the Miami Hearld article:

"Then, I'll sit down with my family and just talk it over and decide what's best for me. I'm not going to worry about who's going to be mad. I've got to worry about me on this one.''
We've got a real shot here. I don't think he was expecting some of these other colleges (like UCF and OSU) to challenge Miami for his services, but the officials seemed to really open his eyes. Even if we don't land him, they way we have handled our recruitment with him could open some doors to Booker T. Washington, and that could be just as big.

Brandon Harris take his final official visit to Central Florida on Feb 2. "I've been there before and I like the campus and everything," he said. "I just need to go talk to the coaches one more time and get to know the players a bit better. I don't have a leader right now. I wish I knew, but it's really tough. My main thing is to find a place where I feel at home and where it's a family..."

I would love to see him pull a James Scott here (though I stuck with OSU that one, I half expected him to pick Florida). We have been able to pull some upsets in Florida with Rolle, Scott, Sabino, Brewster, and Howard, so I would love to see us pull this one off. In any event, he is a very smart person on how he is going about this. Honestly, I like our odds...no inside info, just a hunch (so feel free to call me out and tell me I'm wrong). Either way, best of luck to Brandon in his decision.

Simply a kid you have to root for!!

I know some probably didn't see it mentioned, but CNN did a small story on him after Sean Taylor was murdered. I posted about it in this thread and here

Still think it was strange that he kept saying football was his chance to "get out"....that is kinda what is keeping my hopes up for now with the kid

It would be great if he pulled a James Scott.. but Im think more of a Ryan Hill.., great CB, loved OSU, but couldnt pull himself to leave Miami..

Miami insiders are dead set Brandon Harris is going to UM.. but those comments will at least keep things interesting til signing day

family atmosphere. I've been hearing a lot of recruits talking about the positive family atmoshere on their officials. The Tressel-effect is trickling down to all these kids. The current buckeye players are even starting to talk like Tress. I think this "family atmoshere" talk, among a lot of other things, most notably the success they are having on the field is really getting the attention of these OOS recruits. The coaching staff has done a great job with the OOS kids this year, targeting the best of the best and expecting to land them.

In doing my updates at Recruiting Planet, I have noticed that nearly EVERY Miami recruit/verbal talks about the family atmosphere at Miami as well.

So when he is saying he wants to go to a place that has a family atmosphere, keep in mind that place could very well be Miami just as much as it could be Ohio State.

My impression of Brandon, and of course from simply what I've read, is that he's not looking to play "minor league football" for 3 years and then off to the NFL. Seems like a real level-headed kid who's looking for the best place for him to enjoy the college experience as well as playing ball. I doubt that there is a better Coach in the country than JT at selling himself, his University, and all the perks that come with it to prospective recruits. It seems like he's good at the "Woody" (First time I've ever used that name in a post on this site) approach and recruits parents as well as players. I know it's gonna be tough to land Brandon, simply because of location. But, our staff couldn't have handled the recruiting of this young man any better. Would love to have Brandon, but regardless, will wish him the best of luck in making the decision that's best for him.

Peace.

OT, but actually, in magnetism likes repel each other. remember, "opposites attract."
