A PLAYER WHO WILL be following the Boyd recruiting with considerable interest is 6-3, 221-pound Oakton High School senior quarterback Chris Coyer, who accounted for 2,688 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Coyer, a left-hander, was named Concorde District Player of the Year. That’s the same district that produced Westfield High School quarterbacks Sean and Mike Glennon, who became Division I-A signees for Virginia Tech and North Carolina State.

Coyer has offers from Temple and Ohio University but is waiting to hear from Ohio State and Oregon. Both schools have indicated they will bring him to campus depending on developments with Boyd.

Curious has been a lack of interest from Virginia and Virginia Tech as both schools continue to court other quarterbacks. Coyer completed 67 percent of his passes this year while throwing 17 touchdown passes, compared with three interceptions. He rushed for 1,401 yards and 15 touchdowns out of a spread offense.

Understand what you guys are saying, but if Pryor goes down and we're stuck with one guy on scholarship and another dude who won't get to help out during the spring, I'll take security in numbers. The kid has nice size to. Like the fact he is an accurate passer also.

We were content to not recruit a QB because we weren't going after one all season. Then Boyd (kind of) falls in our lap, but we end up not getting him. Now we've decided we need a QB and go after Boucher and Coyer? It just doesn't add up to me.

I didn't understand how when Henton transferred they didn't look to go after somebody the next day. I don't understand how they can fill comfortable with just two scholarship QB's on the roster with your starter more of a runner than a thrower at the moment. If they are lookin at Coyer I'll take him. His profile seems legit.

Plan D = Coyer
A Newsome
B Boyd
C Boucher

Yeah...thats not true...sorry

Newsome/Boyd/Newton were all at the same level on their board...

Newton said no thanks....Newsome's visit was canceled..Boyd lied to everyone and their mother

Boucher was just below them...

Think of it like the NFL Draft....
not like they are a Plan A or B or C...

Its just a matter of if they are good now or need some work...where the project(where is the ceiling)...can they contribute to the program...

We have two scholarship players who were pretty good QBs in high school (Grant Schwartz, Orhian Johnson) and a new walk-on QB Ross Olterick. I think we're safe, but I guess the staff doesn't feel the same...

This highlights my thoughts. We knew the inevitability of Boeckman leaving and only having 2 scholarship QB's. I figured we must have been content with Oltorick playing 3rd string (Ohrian Johnson?, Grant Schwartz?) and waiting for a QB in '10. I understand offering Boyd, but then scrambling for back-up options a week before signing day, when the pickins are slim? Count me in the camp that finds all this pretty odd but I'll wait until NLOID to comment any further because if Coyer becomes a Buckeye, of course I'll welcome the addition.

After Boyd's Clemson commit I was wondering if the staff's preferred approach was to go to '10, go with only Devontae Payne or go with others not previously in the mix.

Interesting development here, anyone have any inkling why:
