...but there's a lot of shady business going on between Rivals and Scout--changing headlines, unchecking Coyer's offer from tOSU, checking it, then unchecking it again. Makes you wonder if someone from tOSU didn't want people to know/see that a recruit picked lowly Temple--a MAC school and non-BCS school no less, and a school whose team was the laughing stock of the NCAA just a few short years ago, over the prestigious The Ohio State University. Hmmm...

wadc45 and LordJeffBuck explained to you what the process is and what happened. Now, if you want to think Coyer "picked Temple over Ohio State", then suit yourself. But that's not what happened. As for "shady business", that's the recruiting sites, not someone at OSU. Likely some recruitnik just as confused as to the "officiality" of the OSU "offer" as you seem to be...

I dont understand how it wouldn't be...Everything indicates that he was told the offer was there, but he needed to visit and commit on his visit. He turned down the visit. If you want to be literal and say there was no 'official' offer, and thus, he didn't turn down tOSU for Temple, then okay.

Right, because there's NEVER any inconsistency with recruiting profiles and the accuracy of whether they've been offered :roll2:

Save your conspiracy complex. OSU just publically offered Austin Boucher, so that blows up your whole theory.

I want to expand that point since our Temple visitor might not be familiar with Boucher. He is a QB committed to Miami of Ohio, another MAC school. he was our backup plan after Boyd. We offered him, and he decided to stick with Miami. You won't see anybody denying that offer. In Coyer's case, we have some pretty well connected insiders and from what I gathered there was interest but there was no offer. As Wadc45 said, it is a moot point, but I just wanted to show that we have lost recruits to MAC schools before (Roethlisberger is another one) and there is no conspiracy there.

no one is disagreeing with that. here at bp we have set specifics which generate title changes. the "official offer" never occured. "verbal offer" did. or sometimes youll see it as something like "offer?"

its just how the mods track the status.

congrats on picking up coyer.

Well I dont mean to imply that it's a conspiracy, rather, from possibly tOSU's perspective, it doesn't look appealing to lose out on recruits to 'lesser' schools. I'm not saying they're denying it, but they're not looking to make it known.

I see. Again, it's really just semantics. The whole recruiting thing is pretty silly.

And thanks :)

So has Guiton visited? Also, we can get into semantics, but the point is that tOSU wasn't wavering--the offer was there for the taking, and he didn't take it. I'm not looking to get into a shouting match over it, but there's a lot of shady business going on between Rivals and Scout--changing headlines, unchecking Coyer's offer from tOSU, checking it, then unchecking it again. Ohio State Scout - 01/30/09

In accordance with the procedure that I outlined above, Guiton is planning to commit when he visits this weekend. TRANSLATION: Ohio State will issue the official offer this weekend (again, presuming no "red flags"), and Guiton will commit (again, presuming no last-second change of heart).

So Boucher visited, was offered, declined during the visit and that was that?

Yes. What exactly are you trying to prove?

You're driven to prove something by a lengthy battle over semantics and seem to think The Man is trying to sweep this under the rug with "shady business" over offers. Never mind the fact that no one is sweeping the Boucher offer under the rug and it was the OSU sites passing along the wealth of the info, especially after the turndown (which would fit under your "embarrassment" conspiracy).

OSU pursued Coyer and he stuck with Temple. Does the rest really matter?
