UK calling on in-state prospect

It's been just a week since the uncle of new Bowling Green High School standout Chane Behanan said his recruitment was opened back up.

But already the phone is ringing off the hook for the 6-foot-7, 230-pound junior, who moved to Bowling Green from Cincinnati Aiken and had previously been committed to the University of Cincinnati.

Behanan is a top 100 prospect nationally in the Class of 2011.

Bowling Green coach D.G. Sherrill said among the schools that have called to check in on the state's top prospect has been the University of Kentucky.

The Wildcats have not offered a scholarship but will monitor the progress of Behanan. Oklahoma State did offer a scholarship to Behanan last week.

Alabama, Georgia and West Virgina are among the other schools that have already been in touch with the Behanan camp.

A strong, physical presence on the floor, Behanan averaged 20 points a game each of the past two seasons at Aiken.

Behanan finds role with Purples while balancing recruitment

Bowling Green junior forward Chane Behanan, who transferred to the Purples from Cincinnati over the summer, is being recruited by a number of major-conference programs. Behanan makes his home debut tonight against Glasgow.

Chane Behanan makes his long-awaited home debut tonight when Bowling Green welcomes Glasgow at 7:30 p.m.

The junior, coveted by college basketball programs, moved to Bowling Green earlier this summer from Cincinnati?s west side and enrolled at BGHS. After the relocation, Behanan - who first verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati - reopened his recruitment, causing a stir in the recruiting world and making Behanan?s summer a little more stressful.

?Sometimes (it?s frustrating), especially when reporters have your number,? he said. ?That?s real, because I had to change mine. As far as college, I don?t really pay attention to it because I?m just a junior right now. I still got a long time. Sometimes I get a little frustrated with it, but I just gotta work because there?s someone out there working harder than me every day.?

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Behanan is being recruited by some heavy hitters, including Alabama, Cincinnati, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Tennessee, West Virginia, Xavier and Western Kentucky, according to various recruiting Web sites.

Still, choosing one of those colleges won?t be as tough for Behanan as was moving to a new town and a new school.

?It was pretty tough, for me, especially, because I got a lot of friends in Cincinnati,? he said. ?I had made a real good bond with a lot of people up there, plus my whole family. But this is just another chapter in my book. I adjusted real well. Everyone?s made me feel like I?m at home real quick.?

Many eyes on Bowling Green standout Chane Behanan at AAU event
Behanan rated No. 24 by Rivals

By Jody Demling ? [email protected] ? July 7, 2010

INDIANAPOLIS -- It's been quite a few weeks for Bowling Green High School standout Chane Behanan.

The 6-foot-7 power forward was named MVP of the prestigious National Basketball Players Association top-100 camp last month and saw his ranking soar.

He is ranked No.24 by Rivals and No.29 by Scout. The Class of 2011 player is considered a prime contender for McDonald's All American honors.

"It's pretty good," Behanan said from the adidas Invitational where he's playing with the Ohio Basketball Club. "I didn't know it was going to be this hard to stay there. Being No.24, everyone looks at me and knows me now."

College coaches have taken note. Behanan said Louisville and West Virginia are his leaders, but Indiana offered a scholarship recently and Kansas, Texas and Ohio State are showing interest as well.

"I heard (North Carolina coach) Roy Williams watched me and liked me, but I don't know," Behanan said. "Everything is wide open."

Q&A with Chane Behanan
Chane Behanan is a Kentucky player, but is being recruited by Indiana and Purdue. I caught up with Chane after one of his games at Tuesday’s Adidas Invitational, and he updated me on his recruitment, and how he feels about IU and Purdue.

Question: Since your performance at the NBPA Camp, what are the new schools that have jumped in your recruitment?

Answer: Indiana offered, Ohio State and Kentucky are on me more, and Texas is recruiting me.

Q: What did you think about your new (top 30) status in national rankings?

A: I like it, but I don’t pay attention to those too much, you know everyone has their own opinion.

Q: Last I heard West Virginia and Lousiville were on top of your list, is that still the case?

A: Yeah, I’ve been talking to both schools a lot, and they came to my games today.

Q: Can you talk about IU and Purdue a little bit, and have you visited either school yet?

A: Both schools have offered me, and I went up to Purdue a couple Saturdays ago. Purdue showed me around the campus, and they showed me the new basketball facilities they are building. I got to meet some of the Purdue players, I liked the visit and they showed me a good time. I haven’t been to Indiana yet, but they offered me a scholarship and I hope to get up there whenever I get the time.

Q: How soon after the NBPA Camp did Indiana offer you?

A: They offered me about two days after the camp, because I had a good performance.

Q: You said Ohio State is turning up the heat, are they trying to get you to visit, and would you visit there?

A: Yeah, I would like to visit there. Ohio is my home state so I could make it up there.

Unfortunately but clearly the right thing to do, it is not Matta's to keep regarding a kid hard once he makes his verbal and when Chene verballed to UC Thad backed off of him or I think we would be in pretty good position to land him.

Here is what Rivals' Jerry Meyer had to say abobut former Ohio prospect Chane Behanan and current Strongsville prospect Aaron White.

Chane Behanan (2011 Ohio Basketball Club)- After his stellar play at the NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp, Behanan has the attention of virtually every school in the country. On Tuesday, the coaches were able to see first hand what the buzz about the five-star prospect is all about.

Against the Franchize All Stars, Behanan scored 18 points and grabbed a bushel full of rebounds. He displayed surprising mobility for a player with his size and strength, hands as good as any player in the class and an ability to make a variety of plays offensively.

Chane Behanan, Bowling Green (KY), Ohio Basketball Club: Behanan didn?t play particularly well on Tuesday, but it?s easy to see why he?s a hot commodity. His listed height is 6-6 or 6-7, but he?s actually closer to 6-5 which makes him a bit undersized for a power forward. His post game is very polished, his body (at least 250 pounds and mostly lean) is college ready and he showed an ability to finish with either hand. He seemed to get a bit frustrated in his first game on Tuesday as his teammates either forgot about him or just refused to feed him the ball. After his meeting with the media, it was obvious that Louisville and West Virginia are in the best shape and he sounded as if he?d be thrilled with an offer from Kentucky. He did, however, say he hopes to visit Bloomington.

Chane Behanan continues torrid summer at Hoopfest

Following his MVP performance at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in June, ESPNU 100 forward Chane Behanan continued his stellar play this summer this week at the Eddie Ford Tennessee Hoopfest, reports ESPN affiliate Memphis Roar, Memphis Tigers College Sports, Recruiting.

"Behanan was the best prospect in the building," writes Adam Shoulders. "Fresh off a recent MVP performance at the esteemed NBPA Top 100 Camp, Behanan dominated the play for his Kentucky Blazers U17 squad.

"He displayed great athleticism, a high motor, versatility as a defender, perimeter skills and just brute strength. He played like a top 10-type talent."

The former Cincinnati commit is hearing from nearly every top program in the country.

"The schools in the mix right now are Louisville, Cincinnati, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Florida, Ohio State, Seton Hall, Arkansas, Indiana, Marquette, Stanford, Mississippi State, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, Connecticut, North Carolina, Purdue, Kentucky, UCLA and West Virginia," Shoulders noted.

"He made special mention that Kentucky was on him 'heavy' of late. At this point, it sounds like Louisville is in good position. He plans on visiting Purdue, UNC, Texas, Indiana and Louisville this fall and said he will make a decision next spring."

Behanan picks up big offer

Bowling Green High School standout Chane Behanan picked up another big-time offer this afternoon - Ohio State University.

A native of Ohio, Behanan said he wasn't close to making a decision but was pumped

"It's a big one," he said. "I like it and am really excited."

Behanan, who was the MVP of the NBPA top 100 camp, said he was "a ways away from" making a decision on where he'll attend college.

He said Louisville and West Virginia continue to show strong interest, while two other schools he said have come on "really, really heavy. North Carolina and Kentucky."

"I am hoping they both offer," he said. "Calipari watched me on Saturday and Roy Williams watched me in Indianapolis. I talked with Roy Williams on the phone and he said he really liked my game and wants to get me on campus."

Behanan said he hasn't talked to the UK coaches but they have been texting with his coaches.

Chane Behanan ?11 ? Ohio Basketball Club ? It was announced by several media outlets this week that Behanan was going to cut his down to seven schools next week. At this point, that is the case, however, he saw a new school come into the picture recently. Ohio State showed their love for Behanan by offering him. ?Yeah they did today,? he said. ?It?s a great offer to have.? Now that the Buckeyes have offered, will this change Chane?s plans for his top seven? They certainly have to be up there as one of his favorites considering he hails from Ohio.

JD, who's UofL closer to landing, Quincy or Chane, or both?
Wednesday July 21, 2010

Chane will be a battle between U of L and WVirginia as long as the list stays like it is now. And Ohio State is a major player also

Do you believe UL and WVU will be the teams to beat for Behanan even though he's getting "strong interest" from Ohio St, UNC, and UK?
Wednesday July 21, 2010

I think Ohio State is right there with those two

t's Feb.24 and my brother just got out of jail. I'm at the table with what hats, and what hat will I put on?
Wednesday July 21, 2010

Tough call right now. Louisville, West Virginia and Ohio State.
