Williams ready for senior year at Montverde Academy

By Michael Carvelli

Published: Thursday, July 26, 2012

The recruiting process can be difficult for any high school basketball player, but it gets even tougher when you?re touted as one of the best players in the nation.

That?s something Devin Williams is learning pretty quickly.

The rising senior, who is currently playing for the Ohio Basketball Club this summer, is currently the No. 96 player in the 2013 recruiting class, according to ESPN.com. He recently decided on his top eight schools he?s interested in attending once he graduates ? a list that includes West Virginia, Louisville, Memphis, Ohio State, Xavier, UCLA, North Carolina State and USC.

"Before I had my final eight, I had 25 or 30 schools calling me," Williams said. "It was crazy trying to focus on basketball with all of that going on as well.

"That?s when I knew I had to sit down and come up with a top eight so I can narrow that down a little bit. It?s made it less chaotic."

Of those eight schools he?s narrowed his list down to, USC, is the only team that didn?t make a Sweet 16 appearance in the last five seasons. That the list includes five schools that have made recent trips to the Final Four is something Williams described as a little humbling.

"It gives me more confidence in my game knowing that these top schools come to see me play and want me to play for their school," he said. "(The recruiting process) is something that only happens to you once in a lifetime, so I?m trying to enjoy it as much as possible."

According to some twitter sources we are no longer in his top three.

I didn't see that twitter source, and I follow practically every good college basketball reporter on twitter. Maybe what you saw was that he scheduled officials to 3 schools on his list and not to OSU yet? I am not believing your comment unless I see it myself. I'm not saying he's going to come to OSU, I just can't believe he would cut his list down and then say he's got a top-3 right afterward - makes no sense.

Litl, you are aware the tweet you just copied is Williams' final list, which has 5 teams, including OSU, right? I'm not sure if you're correcting yourself or just unaware that the hashtag doesn't change the list at all. The list is WVU, UCLA, Memphis, OSU, NC State. Baptist added the hashtag.

Oh, I guess I did read it wrong. Thanks for showing me my poor reading skills. Still, I just wonder how good of shape the Buckeyes are in with Williams.

2013 Forward Prospect Devin Williams To Visit Memphis This Weekend
by Patosha Jeffery

High school senior Devin Williams is scheduled to officially visit the Memphis Tigers this weekend on Oct. 19. Williams, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is currently ranked at No. 83 in the 2013 ESPN 100. According to scouts, he can score in the low post and out to 12 feet. He can score some over his left shoulder but is very good at putting the ball on the floor from the mid-post and getting to the basket.

Williams also has scholarship offers from West Virginia Mountaineers, UCLA Bruins, North Carolina State Wolfpack and Ohio State Buckeyes. However, he has narrowed his list to three schools: Memphis, West Virginia and Ohio State.

This season Williams became a member of one of the top basketball programs in the nation, Montverde Academy (FL). He spent the first three years of his high school career at Withrow in Cincinnati , OH. Williams averaged 15.7 points and 10.7 rebounds last season for the Tigers.

Williams knows the transition to Montverde will be different. ?I heard he?s (Coach Kevin Boyle) tough, but I need it a little bit,? Williams told MaxPreps.com. ?That?s one of the reasons I went down there. I understand he will get me ready for college and develop my game a little bit more. If he?s going to be on my butt, I?m just going to have to take it.?

Bob Baptist tweeted that DWilliams will be visiting tOSU next weekend 10/27 after visiting MEM this weekend. Sounds like he'll be coming to a decision soon - in plenty of time to sign in November. Despite a lot of the recruits we've been after jumping at their first official visit school, I think in this case being last will be better for us.
