2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

Here is a guy that is young but could be a factor in the next several years. I wish Michigan would give him a look because he seems to put a lot of focus on the DEFENSE. He is a nobody but the guy just wins.

Player Bio: Chuck Martin - GRAND VALLEY STATE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

He's definitely a guy to keep an eye on. GVS is a Michigan school, too, which could be an advantage, much like Tressel being at YSU.

I would be surprised if TSUN would hire a guy that didn't run a Big 6 program (past or present), but the possibility certainly exists. GVS is an impressive program.

Wednesday Presser Notes | mgoblog
Brandon Minor is doubtful for Saturday. His ankle is healed, but now the shoulder is a problem. He didn't practice at all yesterday, and they're hoping he can do a little today.
  • Last week's Tate/Denard issue was overplayed. Tate and Rodriguez never "argued," but the coach was giving a coachly lecture. The two QBs split snaps with the first team last week (contrary to rumors), and Tate will likely start this week, though both will play.
  • Carlos Brown, Mike Shaw, and Vincent Smith are considered co-starters for Saturday at this point. Kevin Grady will get some carries as well.
Does RR really think anyone buys that all three are starting? Particularly the backs themselves?
  • Woolfolk is at corner because there were concerns with that position. Brown's position is almost like a nickel safety, rather than a linebacker, so that's a natural fit for him.
  • Brandon Smith and Mike Williams are competing in practice this week for the starting safety spot.
  • Obi Ezeh and Kevin Leach are still competing for the starting linebacker spot.
  • Brandon Graham and MIke Martin are the only defensive players who graded out high in the Wisconsin game.
  • The season's permanent captains have been decided, but they won't be announced until tomorrow afternoon - even to the players.
The CARA reporting issue was taken care of as soon as Rodriguez found out about it. He can't say anything else about it, however, as the NCAA investigation is ongoing.
The team had higher goals this season than scraping into a bowl game, so regardless of the outcome on Saturday, the season will be a disappointment. However, it's not discouraging for the program, and the groundwork has been laid for future success.
The team's results have been identical to last year in big ten play. A win tomorrow changes things, a loss preserves the pattern.
Taking the ball off the coin toss against Wisconsin was one of the few times Rich has ever done it. He wanted to get on the scoreboard early, and Wisconsin's students still hadn't made it into the stadium, so he thought it would give them an advantage.
Can't say I've ever heard of a coach hurrying to score before the students arrive.

That's positively bullshit. Anyone who's not discouraged Up North is a liar or a dumbass.

Groundwork for success? Are you kidding me? Their defense next year will be worse! Since when is consecutive beatdowns by teams that you previously owned laying the groundwork for success?

Extreme delusion or monumental stupidity? Any votes?

What fucking groundwork? Continued 2nd half beatdowns? Another Big Ten collapse? More record setting defensive ineptitude? I understand coach speak, but sometimes you just need to STFU. Especially when talking makes you look like an incompetent boob.

Holmes Onwukaife Update | mgoblog
Holmes Onwukaife Update
I spoke with Holmes Onwukaife tonight, who is currently committed to FSU. He's still firm with FSU, but he hasn't closed any doors either. I asked him if he still stays in regular contact with Michigan, and he said yes.
He had just spoken with Fred Jackson this past week, and Michigan has told him he still has a scholarship with them. They are recruiting him as an outside linebacker, which is what he'd like to play.
Originally, they were recruiting him for DE, and he wanted to commit, but was asked to move to MLB. He didn't want to at the time, and committed to FSU.
Although he said he is still firm with FSU, and the coaching changes won't affect his decision, he isn't ruling out a visit to Michigan, either. He said he's not making any promises, but he doesn't have a game this week, and it would be possible to make it up for the OSU game. It sounded like a long shot, but possible.
He didn't want to say too much, which is understandable.
I'm still trying to figure out where UM got the idea that they could be picky with defensive recruits.

Mary Sue Coleman standing behind Rich Rodriguez, coach's agent says - AnnArbor.com

While attempting to give a vote of confidence, she drops this gem
?I don't think it's fair to coaches to bring them in and say, 'We're going to give you three years,?? Coleman told the Journal. "When (former Michigan basketball coach) Tommy Amaker came in, we stuck with him for six years. It just wasn't going to work; it wasn't the right fit. But it wasn't a rushed decision.?

What a great football mind, letting the arrival of the student section dictate his opening game strategy.
Yeah, that was a little puzzling to me. I know we are talking about a genius in some scUM fans' opinion, but to me it is just plain retarded.

From what I've been reading DickRod kinda 'smirks' at the Michigan-OSU rivalry. I'm guessing he doesn't think it's such a big deal (unlike WVU and Pitt).....(insert smilie here)......

Better wake up and smell the coffee, your 'bosses' at Michigan (and the unspoken bosses - the alums) think so, so he'd better take their lead. However, the players all seem to know, even the young'uns, and they will play like wildcats with hemeroids....

Hopefully OSU will not come out 'flat' like they did against Purdue, but take care of business early, and clear the bench. Hope that the O-line protects Pryor, as I'm certain that the defense will be trying to dismember him, either legally or not.

OSU 45-12

:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger: and scUM still :scum4:and watch out for the pile-ups!:groove3:
