Obviously not the most exciting hire, but it was just an assistant position, so we weren't going to get the hottest name on the market. And you'd have to guess it will be a short term thing anyway---Warinner will probably leave to be a HC in a year or 2 and there's a good chance he'd take Beck with him to be his OC.

Posted this in Burrow thread:

A Nebraska fan posted on the OSU 247 page that Beck may not have the best relationship with Burrow. Remember that Burrow is a legacy to Nebraska. I guess when he personally worked out at Nebraska looking for an offer Beck didn't offer him. Hopefully he's able to get the relationship there and keep him in the fold.

He's a Youngstown boy if I remember correctly. Urban has said time and time again he wants Ohio coaches that "get it" when it comes to OSU football. He had said it isn't an accident that most of his coaches are Ohio boys.

An Ohio native with connections to Texas recruiting... seems like a homerun from that aspect.
As a position coach in general, I'm liking this the more I think about it. Only real question is his ability to specifically develop QBs, not a lot to go on there and he's been all over positionally in his career... but I'm sure Urban vetted him.

He also allegedly asked a stupid question of something to the effect of whether Burrow had any experience running a zone read offense indicating that Beck clearly hadn't watched any film.

Not just Urban - Warinner had to have spoken extremely highly of him. I posted this in Beck's thread but in '07 Beck was Kansas's WR and Passing Game Coordinator when Warinner was the OC. For them to move as fast as they did you can imagine both are happy with this hire.

Bingo! I'm sure Warriner had a pretty big co sign on Beck, and making KU not only respectable, but very efficient and high octane should speak quite highly. Time will tell on this hire, but Urban and Warriner know what they're doing, we are in the NC in his 3rd year as our coach...

Trust the coaches, but Herman had a history of developing QBa and passing attacks even if we didn't know his name. Beck has a history of coaching QBs that don't throw very well.

From 1/11/15. Ha, I thought I'd publicly expressed doubts about his QB development abilities early on, but it wasn't in his thread so I figured I was just giving myself too much credit.

I'm in agreement that Warinner should be promoted to the full time play caller. I also think that OSU should make a play for East Carolina OC Lincoln Riley in a co-OC/QB/PGC type role. He nearly left ECU to become QB coach at Notre Dame last year so I think he could be had in the name of career advancement despite losing the reigns of the offense. He's also got Texas ties and comes from a coaching lineage (Mike Leach) familiar with fast tempo.

I also think TCU co-OC Sonny Cumbie would be a great fit, for essentially all the same reasons as Riley.

Nice call on Lincoln Riley. May prove to be the difference between OU winning the NC and us not doing so.

I am now and always have been a great proponent of "trusting the coaches". In the case of Urban Meyer hiring an offensive coordinator, I can't imagine trusting any other coach with any other job more.

I don't care if I've never heard of him. I don't care if he's 80. I don't care if his offense is terrible at his current job. I don't care if it ends up being a woman.

Urban Meyer will hire an offensive coordinator and I will celebrate.

You should have cared more . . .
